UCLA Transfer decisions out April 19th!

@ ThugFish

I don’t know about UCtoUC GPA, but I know it’s true for CCC GPA’s.

@JeffJenks

I don’t know how to break this to you, but CAL is in a very bad area. My brother lived in family housing at UCLA for both undergrad and law school, and I can tell you the areas were fine. Remember UCLA is in Westwood, while USC is not in a very good area.

^^ Very true. I didn’t find the Berkeley area to be too bad, but I have heard some negative things from people who go there. I think UCLA is in the best area out of the 3. Of course there is danger in any big city though

I’m an English major with a 3.3 :confused:
I do have an upper trend; 4 semesters with a 4.0 gpa consecutively (5 including summer session).
I did explain why my gpa was low in my essays
I have a 4.0 within my major
I have many extracurricular activities, work experience within 3 different law firms, awards, volunteer work, etc.

Do I have any chances of being accepted into ucla? I think I don’t, my gpa is way to low and besides, there is so much competition :frowning: I am sure other applicants have amazing extracurricular and work experience.

@nicole0526 I’m an English major too and my GPA is higher than yours (3.9 cum; 4.0 major) but reading your post made me really insecure haha!

I think it’s what you say about working with 3 different law firms? That’s nothing to scoff at. I myself only had a few ECs, a couple of awards, and no paid work experience at all.

Considering your upward trend, I’d say you have a good shot if your excuse was good enough.

It’ll all come down to how good your personal statements are, I think. Mine, to be honest, could have been better. I think I tried too hard, and I didn’t have anyone look at them. I’ll be very upset with myself if I don’t get accepted LOL

Best of luck.

I don’t disagree with you guys; like I said, probably just a personal paranoia fueled by media reporting of the area (basically just biased information because LA is so close to me… rarely will my local news broadcast stories of crime occuring in San Francisco!). I know San Francisco, Oakland, and some areas surrounding Berkeley are pretty bad too, but I also prefer the liberality of NorCal; most of the people I’ve met from UCB say that aside from the prestigiousness of the school, the people that they’ve encountered around Berkeley, San Francisco, etc. are some of the nicest…opposed to many of the superficial, chauvinistic people in LA.

Please don’t misconstrue what I’ve just said as “putting people down” who live in LA, these are just some people I’ve encountered in the region. Probably spent too much time hanging around the wrong areas, lol.

@JeffJenks

I think it depends on the individual person. I also live in L.A. area and people here are pretty nice. Also L.A. is pretty liberal, just not S.F. liberal xD

@zomgrad

Thank you for your kind response :’)

I think my personal statement could have better as well. I tried to write it in a way that would truly reflect my personality; I wanted to be different and not robotic like most
applicants… reading it made me feel like it was probably the same as everyone else :frowning:

Best of luck to you as well!

@JeffJenks
I gotcha. It all depends on personal preference. I love both areas in different ways, but I am leaning towards LA more I think but that’s probably because I’ve grown up in Orange County so its close to home.
But the San Francisco area is definitely interesting and different!!

and maybe we’ll start seeing some indicators on myUCLA and URSA before then :D

There was a post saying that not all admissions will be available on 26th. If it does not come up I’m going to die of heart break or anxiety

^^^ Agreed. Probably around Tuesday there might be changes!!! This week is gonna be filled with so much anxiety but I’m excited!
At the end of this week most of us will know where we are going to attend!

Yay it’s monday now!!!

^ So its come to this. @ kay1541, when I read your comment I did think “YAY!” Butterflies are officially living in my stomach…

@UCdrone

The only remedy is decision! decision! decision!

Friday will be a mixed day full of disappointments for some and joy for others. Hope everyone gets into the schools they want to attend!

^ I just want to get my rejection and be on my way! My major’s impacted, and I really want to be accepted, but I have to be practical.

^^ I’m trying to put my mind to think that I’ve already been rejected just in case that I get rejected
