UCLA Transfer decisions out April 19th!

@ jrlovesseattle

I’m also a paralegal. I can tell you this, I knew more than he did when I graduated from the paralegal program. I’m trained to know the law, and rules of the court (this includes filing motions, paperwork, etc.), but a lawyer argues the law. This is something I cannot do, a lawyer will beat me every time. Your major will only help you so much, but when arguing the law…well, so much comes into play. Philosophy is a great major, English (you would be surprised how much you can win with words), any major is alright. You will be disappointed in the law, it is not like t.v. IF you are a great lawyer, you win with motions. In this profession, the Pen is mightier than the sword.

@UCdrone, wow that’s interesting. Yeah I hear philosophy/English majors do well in law school. I was think of minoring in English so we will see. Thank you!

^ rhetoric is good major as well. You would be particularly menacing if you were an engineer, scientist, doctor who then went to law school. So, you see, the major in undergrad is really irrelevant.

Yeah but I’m no good in the sciences lol. I was looking into either double majoring or minoring in economics. That’s about the most math I can handle lol

^MBA, or even accounting–don’t forget taxation. Polysci seems like a good fit for international law.

Is anybody here transferring from another UC?

Do you guys think there are better or worse chances of transferring from another UC??

@pappy6 I’m transferring from another CC. Chances are the same I think. UCLA is the only UC who doesn’t take into account where you are coming from, I believe.

@zimzam
If you don’t like people talking and theorizing about the upcoming decisions, don’t you think it’s a bit stupid to have come on this thread in the first place? lol.
Anyways this is the last I’ll respond to you since all you’re looking for is attention.

@everyone else
Any changes on ursa/myucla for anyone else in the past couple days??

@ Thugfish,

Nope, your GPA gets completely wiped out once you transfer in. You start all over again; my GPA is going to disappear, just like yours will.

@UCdrone I am pretty sure that isn’t the case when applying to grad school!

@pappy I’m transferring from another uc and actually the chances are worse than for a cc transfer :frowning: a lot of schools give cc transfers preference

@sarah nope :frowning: my banners been white for awhile now

@ alevy123

I don’t know about grad school, and I doubt any of us know that right now, I’m just trying to transfer as an undergrad, LOL :)

Any other Psyc / Psyc + TAP applicants on this thread?
I’m a CCC transfer w a 3.84 transferrable GPA and TAP.

Anybody else in a similar boat? NEED SOME PEACE OF MIND to know that there are others! haha.

@UCdrone, yup. I was looking into international law actually. But I’m not sure on the job market for it. I still need to do a lot of research as you can see lol.

@alevy123
Even though your previous college’s GPA will not show up on your UCLA transcript, grad schools will compute a GPA from all courses taken for a letter grade from all colleges attended. This is an attempt to make GPA comparisons easier among applicants since some Colleges award 4.33 for A+ while others only award 4.00

@UCdrone really? im transferring over from a lower tier UC. Im pretty sure the gpa transfers over for UC-UC but i duno.

@JeffJenks TAP psychology applicant here as well! Although, you are looking way better than I am.I have a 3.71 GPA +TAP so I am pretty nervous since I am a little below the average gpa for psych :. I did apply as an anthropology major as an alternate major, however, but I would much rather attend UCLA as a psychology major.

@UCdrone I need to stop assuming things!! :stuck_out_tongue: haha

@alevy123, I have a couple of good news for you:

A friend of mine (also a psyc major) was accepted to UCLA with a 3.75 GPA + TAP this last year (fall 2012 admission). But she did have quite a bit of extra curriculars.
…She was also admitted to Cal.

Another friend applied to UCLA as Psyc/Anthro alt. + No TAP (I’m pretty sure she didn’t do TAP; and, I don’t know her GPA but I can tell you that it was probably much lower) and she was admitted for Anthro.

Have you also applied to Cal? Which school is your preferred?

@JeffJenks That is encouraging news, indeed!! I really appreciate the consolation :). I do have some extracurriculars under my belt…not a lot…but some :). Hopefully they will take that into consideration and that will tip the scales in my favor!!
Did your friend with the 3.75 GPA have all her pre-reqs done by the fall or was she finishing up any remaining pre-reqs during spring prior to transfer? My school of choice is UCLA!! I have a lot of friends that attend and I am very familiar with the campus. I feel like it would be a smoother transition for me and I do intend to work in the Socal area so it would only make sense for me to attend UCLA and network myself there!!
And, yes, I have applied to Cal! However, I do not know too much about it, in all honesty, besides the fact that it is desirable and extremely prestigious haha. What is your school of choice? And how are you in terms of major pre-req completion? I feel like having all major pre-reqs completed by fall does give one sort of an edge. I could be wrong though lol

@alevy123, absolutely! I hope that can afford you some peace of mind. As far as I know, she was still completing her pre-reqs her final semester.
And it makes sense why you would want to stay in this area!
Cal is my first choice; it used to be UCLA, but after visiting USC, I just felt unsafe there…probably just a paranoia, but I feel like the news media has primed me to be afraid of LA, given all the horrifying and disturbing stories of people and events in the area. Aside from that, I’m sure that the education offered at LA is comprable to that of Cal’s.
Pre-req completion: everything for UCLA is done, but as far as I know, having them completed or in progress would not affect your admissions decision. If you have a few in progress, I would not stress at all. I was reading a thread (don’t quote me but from what I remember) someone said they were completing something like 5 pre-reqs their final semester and was still admitted.
I hope things work out for you!
What do you plan on doing with Psychology, career-wise?
