UCLA Transfer important question

I read on another thread that you need to have all your pre-reqs completed by the end of your Fall semester in which you are applying. I will be applying as a transfer to UCLA in Novemeber 05 for the Fall 06 semester. My major is political science. I need to take 4 political science classes. So am I understanding right that these need to be completed by the end of the Fall 05 semester? Also, what grades are you accepted/rejected on? In other words if I have a 4.0 after the first to semesters at a community college am I almost guaranteed admission? Thanks for all the support!

You do not need to complete all your prereqs in the Fall. However, if you do well, then your chances of being accepted will be heightened because your performance in prereqs will already be known. On the other hand, if you leave too many prereqs for the Spring, UCLA might be unsure of how well your performance in those classes will be. Thus, the adcom will be more likely to reject you, unless they are very impressed with the other aspects of your application and your performance in your other prereqs.

Simply, don't leave more than one or two prereqs for the spring. Try to take the general classes you need in the spring instead like breadth requirements. I hope that helps. Good luck!

How critically do they weigh the grades of your major prep courses? I assumed they were given the same weight as any other classes since it was all still general ed...

Your major pre-req classes are weighted more heavily.

Yeah, that's always been on my mind as well.....I have a 3.8 over all, but 4.0 in my major. I'm glad to hear that....Had a couple of B's, no biggie, I think. lol

I think you have no need to worry BruinMichelle. Good luck!

CCStudent....thank you very much.

It's early so I'm not as lucid, however, I just wanted to add that for anyone transferring, I found the two publications "Answers for Transfers" and "Introducing the University" to be absolutely in line with the questions that your answering. Forgive me, if this is not new information but you most of the students that I come across do not really know what's out there in terms of information. I'd frankly rather get my info straight from the UC's own materials than some young, well-meaning girl/lady/gentleman online.

If you're planning on doing a TAA (transfer admission aggreement) which does guarantee admission to the school specified in the agreement, then they do say that you complete the English and Math requirements, yes. But they also do highly encourage you to finish your lower division prep before the Spring preceding the next School year you wish to attend, if that makes any sense.

But like CC says.....they want to see what you can do before you apply. From being on this website, I've seen that there are some very strong, very drvien applicants and the minimum just won't do. Getting into UCLA and UCB is a waiting game. UCD, UCSD and UCI seem popular. Anyway, to my knowledge, UCD, UCSD,UCSB, UCSC and UCR all offer TAA's. As of next year, all you need is a 2.8, complete English and Math requirements in the Fall preceding the school year you wish to attend and you're guaranteed for UCSB, for example.

It's definitely doable. My second choice should have been UCSD but I didn't apply. lol Oh well....

I'm applying for UCLA Math/Econ in this fall, and my major req. includes math. But one of the major-req. math classes won't be offered in this fall, so I have to take it in the next spring. Is it so hard to get acceptance??
