So I know it’s way too early to be worrying about this, but I’m curious to hear some opinions on how competitive I am at any of these schools. All opinions welcome and encouraged!
My profile:
Major- History
GPA- 3.68 assuming that I ace my fall 2016 classes (3.63 at time of application submission)
Major GPA- 3.85 due to a B I received in 2012 during my first stint at CC
Pre-reqs/IGETC: will be finished after Fall 2016 semester (except for last semester of foreign language, which will be finished before transfer)
ECs:
tutor homeless children in the downtown LA area
volunteer at the California Wildlife Center
have two part time jobs
I’m a re-entry student (25), low-income, and first generation, and have earned all As since returning to school last Fall.
I’ll probably tag with either Davis or SB. My absolute dream school is Berkeley but UCLA is a close second. What do my chances look like?
I can almost guarantee you’ll be accepted to UCD and UCSB given those stats. You’ll be a strong applicant for UCB and UCLA, especially given your ECs (in my opinion). If I were to make a prediction, I would say you’ll be accepted to UCD, UCSB, and either UCLA or UCB. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were accepted to all of them.
Also, Berkeley likes upward trends, non-traditional students, etc. - I think you have good chances at all the schools. Your ECs are impressive, too - just make sure to write stellar essays.

Thanks for your replies! I’m starting to like my chances.

Unfortunately my current CC doesn’t offer TAP with Berkeley. I reached out to a transfer advisor at a school that offers it but she said that I would have had to enroll with them this current semester in order to be considered, since I’m applying this Fall. Idk if this is true at every TAP school though. Do you know much about TAP? It’s hard to find concrete information about it.
@UCBeast Hmm, I would reach out to the local tap coordinator and explain your situation. They are very very accommodating to URM and low income students.
Also, even if you don’t get into the program, stay in contact with the tap coordinator if possible. They work hand in hand with Berkeley’s admissions, and know exactly what admissions want. They also tell you how to frame your essay to highlight the important parts of your story.
UCLA also has tap, but it’s more of an honors program, look into that as well.

My high school class is 2015, so it’s probably not advisable to list awards from hs?
