How would you view the UCLA undergrad Math/Econ Major under the Mathematics department as a potential preparation for a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT?

And how about an undergrad degree (either math or econ) from UCSD?

any insights? from anyone :(

oops…wrong thread. I didn’t know UCLA had its own corner here. :)

It seems to be designed explicitly for Econ PhD preparation. I imagine it’s a great program for students planning to do what you’re planning to do.

Yup ^

For UCSD, at least, they seem to cater towards the important math sequences that will help prepare for a PhD in Econ (real analysis, advanced linear/differentials, etc). I’m still doing the major, but couldn’t handle real analysis, so I took the Advanced Calc option and am opting towards Behavioral Psych PhD (behavioral decision making/behavioral economics).
