UCLA v NYU (Stern)

I have to decide between these two by Tuesday and would really appreciate any help. If I go to NYU I will major in Finance and if i attend UCLA I will major in Math. I’m an international student and the main concern for me are jobs. I really dont want to spend so much on undergrad and then go back to India. From what my friends have told me, job opportunities from Stern would be much greater. Is this true?

Nobody can predict job opportunities solely based on what school you attend. Many other factors such as your GPA, how well you take advantage of opportunities available at your college, internships you get during your college years, how well you interview etc. are also important.

I would suggest you spend some time looking up the curriculum for a Math major at UCLA and an finance major at NYU (can most likely be found online) and see if one path looks better to you. Also consider the different school environments and think about where you might thrive.

If you do equally well Stern will open. More door for you. You should go to Stern only if you can afford it.

For Finance/Business, Stern.

Math is a less pre-professional major than Business/Finance: while you can network at UCLA and probably get interviews for a wide range of jobs, the career path for a Math major might not be as clearly delineated, unless you want to teach Math, become an actuary (they use a lot of Finite Math), or head off to grad school in Math.

Thanks so much @prezbucky, @artloversplus, and @happy1.
