Hey guys i need some help here, i got accepted to UCLA ,MCGILL, TORONTO AND UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. im majoring in engineering and a possible theater minor...money isnt a problem for me so im really unsure where to go...im an international student so its gona be kinda hard to visit the places so if anyone who had experiences in any of these universities plz help....thanks in advance :)

omy a canadian.

I'd prbly go to mcgill because i love it so much. but i don't think it'll be likely that you find someone on here that has experiences in UCLA in combination with any of the above universities.

The only reason is that I would come to UCLA over UT or McGill is the weather. If you've been to southern california at all you will know how to weather is like. I would easily pick UCLA over UBC, having lived in Vancouver . The weather is just phenomenal, and atmosphere at UCLA is just so different from UBC. Note that I've never actually attended UBC, just speaking from having been there.

UCLA has a much more vibrant culture than Mcgill; dunno about UofT. UCLA is also a bit more diverse than Mcgill. Do you know French? If you do, that can be a pull for McGill.

All I know about UBC is that they have a strong business program....sorry.

I actually got accept to UCLA, McGill, U Toronto as well..doing econ or business btw....so hear me out. i didnt even bother finishing my UBC application after hearing from McGill tho....

UBC: I would say that UBC is pretty much the Canadian version of UCLA, in terms of the weather and the class size.....tho being less prestigious, less selective, and have worse weather. The Bcom program I hear is good for working in Vancouver, but anywhere else is pretty much considered less prestigious than U Toronto. Not sure about McGill

But seriously why go to UBC when you have UCLA? UBC is simply the worse version of UCLA in my opinion. (UBC students please forgive me) If you are an international or an out-state....and you are worried about the cost....dont go to UBC...Toronto is better academically , and McGill is much better for all the reasons i will explain later

Toronto:

Academically very good.....but the city is not as attractive as Montreal. Good place if you like Asian guys or girls, but the same can be said for UCLA. Just tanned or not. The graduate school is definitely better than McGill's for the most part, but for the purpose of undergraduate education, I really don't believe it will make any difference...and apparently the honours classes in McGill beats UofT so I'm not going here

McGill:
Great city..with history and cultural experience that Westwood simply cannot provide you with (sorry but true...)
Montreal=good for partying...a lot of night clubs, which is also true for Westwood but you don't need a fake ID in Montreal. The drinking age is 18. Go search for "le frosh" on Youtube and you will see how McGill students party. However, at the same time McGill provides you with pretty much the best undergraduate experience in Canada. I hear that the teachers are mostly great, and especially when you take the honours classes (for econ the drop out rate is easily over 50% tho)...they provide you with undergrad education on par with the top top US universities. However, please note that the honours classes are extremely difficult, have really high drop out rate, and you must complete a thesis to graduate. Most students are smart, smarter than UBC and Utoronto (McGill has the highest average for incoming students, tho it has a lower standard for Quebec citizens) and a lot of US and international students gave up Ivy Leagues for whatever reasons (mostly financial) to go to McGill. I would say that McGill is the best choice for undergrad in the Canada. and i forgot....mcgill is famous for its science(bio related) and i guess engineering is pretty good.

UCLA:

for me....better for econ if I don't take the honours at McGill. However, I would say that academically, they are about the same. Econ and movie related stuff, UCLA>McGill.....but for others, they are probably exactly the same. Maybe McGill is better for bio and premed but don't quote me on this...after all, McGill has been ranked the best public U in north america.....tho it is very controversial

The weight of the name UCLA carries in Asia is great unlike McGill..and in fact UBC and UofT. Possible to transfer to better US colleges if you hate it (not really possible tho). But I guess the biggest thing is that I cannot wake up in cold weather and Montreal's a pretty cold place.......LA's got the best weather in the whole world.

But the thing is I don't really like tanned girls ...so I am still not sure where to go....lol

Post the decision when you make it....beacause I cant really make up my mind between UCLA and McGill as well...

hey im leaning more towards LA but still not 100% confirmed..more like a 60 to 40 % thing :)

Don't University of Toronto and University of British Columbia have a >50% admissions rate?

I'm leaning toward McGill like 80:20
I guess after all I want to live in a place with history and cultural value that go a bit beyond the Hollywood industry. But that's just my personal opinion.

UCLA is a great choice, perhaps the obvious choice. McGill and UCLA are both great anyways so ultimately its just up to personal preference.

not everyone at ucla are tanned.

so ive got to decide between USC and McGill. i keep going back and forth. every time i read something about mcgill it sounds great and i think ive made up my mind, but then i read something about USC and i change my mind and decide to go there >_<

i am interested in communications but i am not in the communications school at USC, so i would probably end up doing the interdisciplinary program. if i went to mcgill id be in the arts college and do political science if i couldnt switch to the buisness school to do marketing, but ive heard its really easy to switch so it wont be a problem. im not sure how easy it is to switch schools with USC though =/

i love love LOVE montreal, and the independent aspect of McGill and i am really not into the frat/sorority blonde bimbo stereotype that ive heard so much about at USC. i also wanted to go somewhere slightly different than the US because i wanted a more international school.

however, ive heard the communications at USC is amazing, and obviously the weather down south beats montreal any day. im also more interested in working in the US than in canada, however i also do want to work internationally rather than just in the US.

ANY advice or opinion will be helpful!

^and why are you asking this question in the UCLA forum?

I'd go to McGill any day over SC.

so far as "the weather down south" goes, if you love smog, pick SC...

McGill.

I have vistited all of those schools and am kinda in the same boat… gunna major in EE got accepted to UCLA USC UBC and McGill.

Montreal is the coolest town ever and the school is super prestigious and respected. UCLA has really good alumni and the weather is AMAZING.
But on the tour at mcgill, they said that the gyms are crowded and you have to wait for tredmills and such… this is definatly not the case at UCLA.

I visited McGill last year and toured the new sports complex with literally hundreds of treadmills etc. I have visited universities all over the US and most of the UC schools and McGill’s facilities are simply amazing compared to most of them.
