Ever since I was accepted to UCLA, I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else until today. I visited campus a month ago and fell in love with everything about it. I was also accepted to McGill but only visited once a long time ago so I don’t even know if I would love the campus. As a pre med, I really want to go to UCLA for the location/weather and tons of opportunities since they have their own hospital and such. The only problem is the cost; it would cost a lot more for me to go to UCLA than McGill because I’m from New York so I’d pay out of state tuition for UCLA, but I’m a dual citizen so I would go to McGill basically debt free. Is the cost of UCLA worth it for me to go?
You might wanna post this in the UCLA category, you’d probably get a lot more knowledgeable ppl replying
I just got admitted to UCLA as well so I don’t have experience with the campus, but I can oddly relate to your post cuz I used to live in Ontario (I live in SoCal now). IMHO I think if we’re just comparing the schools head by head it’s not even a comparison… McGill is a premier college in Canada but UCLA is on another level. However… Am i gonna say it’s worth paying out of state tuition over going to college debt free? Idk about that. You’re talking about a huge difference in money here. Since you’re pre-med, the prestige to your undergrad doesn’t matter. So, although it pains me to say this as a future bruin, I do not think it is worth it in your scenario. From what I’ve heard, the UCs do not give any financial aid to OOS students, so you’re gonna be having to pay a crap ton of $$
They are actually pretty much on the same level, except for the weather.
If you are planning on medical school you should minimize undergraduate debt. McGill has 5 hospitals in the McGill University Health Center. https://muhc.ca/ , but that is an irrelevant part of your decision.
Going to either school will neither improve nor hurt your chances at medical school.
