Hey CC transfers!
My only two options for schools are UCLA and UCI because of distance. I was accepted to UCLA as a microbio major and UCI as a bio sci major. I'm hearing a lot about how UCLA's life science major students have low GPAs and when med school applications come around their GPAs are pretty low and they regret going to UCLA because it messed up their GPA.
I hear the opposite for UCI.
Now take into consideration I'm a ccc student and I'm not used to UCLA's competitive atmosphere.

What do you think?
Where do you think I should go?

Broken record alert! Did you visit both campuses? I predict you probably have since you live close to both, but I suggest you spend as much time as possible on both campuses before making your decision. One of them will probably feel more right than the other, and you’ll probably get a higher GPA at whichever school you personally prefer to spend your time at.

Besides that though, if you really love both and are completely torn, it sounds like you should go to UCI. Your undergrad school won’t matter nearly as much as your actual GPA when it comes to med school admissions, as you know.

Bio sc at UCI is a pain because students just memorize all the answers and destroy the curve. Im sure its the same at UCLA. If youre really concerned with med school GPA, perhaps you shouldve considered a different major. You should already have all the classes you need to study for the MCAT anyway. Generally, organismal or ecological sciences will be easier on your GPA than things like microbio or biochem. They might be a little dry but if you go to UCI you can focus on one of those in Bio Sc.

I’m leaning towards LA because of the research opportunities it has. I love the campus too, I can see myself there. I guess both are going to be difficult. Just have to power through…
