Deliberate please.

For what major?

UCLA and UCSD win for weather hands down. =)

Johns Hopkins: projects 1,080 freshmen (Arts & Sciences and Engineering combined)

I don't know how large the freshman class is at UCLA but I do know the student-faculty ratios: JHU> 9:1 UCLA> 18:1

Both schools are popular with freshman retention rates of 96%.

You're comparing an elite east coast private to a top west coast public.

You should visit both schools if you haven't already. If money was not a big concern, I'd pick Johns Hopkins- even if I wanted to study Film & Media Studies. Being in LA is certainly a plus for getting a job or internship in film or television, but you can always head out to LA (or NYC) after graduating from Hopkins- and the Johns Hopkins degree will make you stand out more. Several famous actors, playwrights, directors, and producers graduated from both schools. Because Hopkins is a much smaller school, undergrads are going to get a lot of special attention- especially in some of the less populated, top-notch humanities programs.

How about if I plan to continue my education throuh professional schools (such as in law and medicine) or graduate schools? Would it be better to attend a school to the likings of SD which would probably have "less competition" than top tier schools allowing for a better GPA hypothetically or would the degree from the university stand out more? From what I read on the board, I'm inclined to believe that the GPA woulud be better, but of course the source I base it on are random CC posters.

dude they are all competitive schools UCSD is highly competitive and is basically the same as UCLA JHU is very good though

At Johns Hopkins last year, 96% of the pre-med students got into a Med School (national average acceptance rate to med school is only about 50%), and 100% of pre-law students got into a law school.
