UCLA vs. USC

Bring the heatttttt. Which school is better? Which school has a better film program? A better legacy? Provide some real facts. Let's hear it!

If both were going to cost the same, I'd go with USC.

Well I would have to think UCLA has the stronger student body as so many people buy and legacy their way into USC. USC has had to buy the kids with decent grades/scores.

There's nothing wrong with giving financial aid to qualified students.

usc has better film and business
ucla has better everything else
usc has better alumni networking
usc is in more of a ghetto
usc and ucla have really good looking people
ucla is food better than usc's food
ucla dorms are half the size of usc's dorms
admissions acceptance rate is lower for usc than ucla

i love both usc and ucla and dont favor either one or the other

I'd rather go to UCLA than USC

i've visited both and i'd say ucla...westwood is one of the best college towns in america.

"USC has had to buy the kids with decent grades/scores."

Wow- giving scholarships based on achievement rather than race or income..what a horrible administrative practice. Why would a a school want to give money to people who actually deserve it. What was the root word of scholarship again....oh year...scholar, that's right.

I didn't say it is a bad practice, just that it is their practice. They are a school, among others, that has used merit aid to up it's ranking. UCLA can not compete money wise.

USC has the stronger student body, though. Besides, why would you think USC is using merit aid to up their ranking? Why not assume they are using merit aid to lure students to USC from the likes of Berkeley, UCLA and Stanford and assemble the best, brightest student body possible?

To attract the best possible student body, a school needs a high ranking!

^ not really. financial aid/ major DOES play a huge factor. My friend got a full ride to UCLA, but chose USC because they would give him additional scholarships+ plus they had the stronger program.

USC has a better legacy and more alumni connections, though UCLA has the higher rank. Ultimately, it's a tossup. The decision lies with what program interests you and what your career path is.

I like UCLA's colors better :)

Aren't the 2 schools very closely ranked. What I'm saying is that USC has made a concerted effort to rise in the rankings and become a school with a stronger student body. They did a very good job and used their money strategically to do this. Now they can stop giving so much merit money because the school can attract the caliber students they want without the monetary incentive.

Right... and UCLA hasn't? Well, not in the same way at least -- as a public school, it really can't compete with USC's funding.

Not really. For the students that qualify, many are still lured primarily by the monetary incentive.
