I love USC but I need strong arguments to support why it is better than UCLA. I have to defend USC because many kids think UCLA is better which I think is a wrong misconception because USC is just as hard to get into as UCLA now.

I'm trying to make this same decision myself. I'm interested in business and althought USC's business is more highly regarded than econ/bizecon from UCLA, I'm scared USC's rep out of socal isn't that great. It may be a misconception, but reputations are very hard to change. I am also worried about how much more of a party school USC is than UCLA, again I hear it's not just a big party school anymore, but again reputations are hard to change.

I hardly think USC is known as a party school. Yes, they do party hard at USC, but the people are by no means unintelligent because the stats to get into USC is up there with UCLA.

Well, technically, so does UCLA, but 'SC has a one that is decent, or actually exceeds "decent."

Entertainment people like 'SC, and have graduated from it: George Lucas and Ron Howard, and of course Spielberg likes USC. Bunch of others.

'SC's mascot is cool. Would you rather be a big dumb bear or a Trojan?

'SC's SAT average exceeds that of UCLA.

'SC is NOT a haven for rich spoiled kids. UCLA kids have higher family income averages than 'SC kids. So you're more likely to find rich spoiled jerks in Westwood.

The reason there aren't a lot of good arguments is because USC is NOT better than UCLA, except for some majors. Everything is a little smaller and you probably get more attention. There's less competition and you could possibly get better grades at USC, and stand out more. But that's about it.

^ Makes a good point. Depends on your major which school is better. USC has a few really good majors (from what I hear: Business, Film, Communications.) UCLA I think has the better overall education. So depends what you want to study.

USC is better cuz dey have a better campus. also, in UCLa, you become a number, while in USC, studnet faculty ratio is 15 to 1. compare it to UCLa which has hundreds in a classroom.

Okay, I went...and well...UCLA and USC are neck and neck on here.

Please guys, if you're going to give a good reason why USC is better than UCLA, I want to know. This is good reason for me to see what I should do at UCLA to improve it. But this, this is pathetic. This is hardly scientific at all. In fact, it's stupid.

uhhh....whaa??? we never wanted it to be scientific. if you have to bring science into ur social life, i am sorry. and if it's stupid, why'd you go and do it??

Because I was hoping for a serious comparison. I'm constantly trying to see how UCLA compares to peer institutions so I can get out there and lobby for improvement!

The only way UCLA will stay competitive is if its alum remain devoted to the campus post-graduation. USC has that huge advantage over UCLA, and I want to try to bring that to my soon-to-be alma mater.

I applaud USC students for their devotion to the campus. I only wish Bruins had the same zeal. However, sites like that one waste people's time.

uh there's something you gotta realize, and I know that steaky would agree....college is not all about science. It's a balance of activities that help you grow as a person.

No, but if someone off the street told you, "Oh man, you should go to Cal State Northridge, it's the best college in America!" you'd probably question his credentials for making the statement.

Why is it better if 100 "someones off the street" say the same thing? You want to make sure that what you're reading is accurate. We trust USNews and World Report more than say National Enquirer for a reason. Hence, my statement.

Besides, what does scientific analysis of "statistics" have to do with growing as a person?

It's not really 100s off the streets, it's about the students' opinions who actually attend the school.....agh, and I never mentioned anything about science. The stats are an indicator of what to expect at the school in a practicial view. that's all.
