UCLA's COMMUNICATION STUDIES MAJORS- UNITE!

So, I want to know if any UCLA comm majors applicants received any leaks through URSA or MyUCLA?!

I haven't, and fuuck, I'm starting to lose it (probably rejected).

I'm wondering since the comm. applicants are reviewed separately, hopefully, they are send out later?

I am comm major and I, like you, am starting to lose it!!!

I haven’t had a change in my URSA yet, so I’m obviously kind of concerned. I have a 4.0 cumulative GPA and am finishing up the last of the prereq’s my CC offers right now. I will have completed IGETC too.

Maybe we’ll hear something tomorrow???

My URSA hasn’t changed either.

My vision of going to UCLA is getting dimmer and dimmer. I think I am 90% ready for the rejection, so it won’t hurt me that bad when the decision come out…

Good luck everyone! we will be saying hi to each other at UCLA if we all hear good news! =)

I feel exactly the same. I am a comm major, not change no my ursa and I’m starting to loose hope.
I really hope we all get in.

Don’t worry guys…probably they just haven’t started updating the URSA Fin Aid for the communications major applicants

wow my last post kind of incoherent. I meant to say, no change on my ursa.
I hope we know tomorrow!!

yeah, i hope so as well.
update tomorrow if any news, guys.
thanks

I am with you guys. Nothing for me either. I have a specific situation though, I have three years worth of studies from a foreign school, so if they count it as more than 86 units (which by no way they should - they don’t even have classes like the ones on my transcript, but still, who knows), then I am not eligible for admission - UCLA only allows 86 university units before switching to CCC. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!

dreamgirl,

I am in the same situation to you! I have been studying at a university in Asia for a year and grades were not great… If they factor them in, I would be Game Over~

Again, Good Luck!

melodycwn,

My grades are great from the university abroad, but majority of them are not supposed to be transferable (too specific, there is nothing even colse to it in the UCLA catalog). UCSB rejected me for that reason (not that I am appealing, but I am glad they did rejected me early so I could prepare an appeal for UCLA - they have more generous units restrictions). Anyway… hope we’ll find out soon!

Does anyone know if any comm majors last year saw their URSA? I’ve looked through some of the old threads and I wasn’t able to find out. I was under the impression that comm majors were processed separately and if that’s true maybe they don’t ever see their URSA until after acceptance day. I hope so cause this is driving me crazy.

I was invited to have breakfast with the president of my ccc today as I won the Medal of Honor for being one of 10 outstanding graduates and I can’t believe I won’t be able to tell him where I’m going to go next fall! I got into UCSB Honors, UCSD and Columbia but I really want to go to UCLA. I just wish this was OVER so I could enjoy all of the next month.

vmason, how were your high school stats when you applied for Columbia?
I pretty much messed up with my SATS averaging a 1500 out of 2400. Having a 3.6 G.PA as well during high school.
I really don’t want to retake them exams.
Well overall, does the high school stats heavily contribute with the transfer applications?
I was thinking of applying soon if I were to get rejected by UCLA. I keep getting mail and email from them to apply by June 1st for late admission, if I am correct?
I hope you don’t mind replying, but how’s the financial aid since it’s an ivy-private university…
Thanks

vmason,

you are in the same boat as I am (I am applying to Columbia too, but really want to go to UCLA). I didn’t get into UCSB because I have too many units combined from 2-year and 4-year schools… What’s your major in Columbia?

wafflesmasher,

yea, deadline in June 1st. I am getting those e-mails too so I am definitely applying. Columbia is visiting my CC (LACC) today at 4PM so I hope I’ll get a fee waiver. If you took your SATs more than 8 years ago, you need to take GS Exam (they’ll have one in Los Angeles this May).

Wafflesmasher-

I had a 4.0 in high school, but my SATS weren’t exceptionally high. I don’t know if SATS factor very heavily at all if you have some college work under your belt. I had some work experience which I think might have made me stand out to Columbia (I modeled and acted in NY and LA for 4 years between high school and college) and I am now a junior at a CCC with a 4.0. I applied to the School of General Studies, which I don’t think factors high school grades too heavily. I think they mostly look at college work, life experience, and work experience, although I’m sure high school plays some role.
The financial aid for GS is pretty nonexistent. I got $8400 for the first year, which isn’t too great considering tuition alone is over $36,000. I would love to go to Columbia, but going off of Columbia’s expense estimations and my own, it would cost around $55,000 each year with living expenses and I really don’t see myself going in $100,000+ in debt for my undergrad. Some friends of mine currently go to GS and they said you need to keep your grades EXTREMELY high to keep a scholarship for the second year and even then, it’s usually not more than $10,000

I was planning on majoring in Economics at Columbia. How about you?? That’s too bad about UCSB. Do you think you’ll have the same issue with too many credits at UCLA or is it specifically a policy for UCSB?

vmason,

thanks for your info on GS scholarships… I am going to apply as Sociology major there. As for UCLA/UCB, they have better credit policies… You can have 86 semester units taken at 4-year school (80 for UCB; so it’s estimated 3 years of studies - exactly what I have, so I think it’s going to be an easy appeal if I’ll need one); then you can take as many as you want at CC as long as you stay “exclusively at CC”. But I’m still backing up with Columbia application. I hope they’ll count my 60 units (I have a bit more than 60 from CC, but 60 is the max) so I’ll have only 2 more intensive years. Streching it into 3 years will be way TOO expensive!

I also just got my credit transfer sheet from Columbia outlining what credits would transfer from CCC, and all of them transferred, just so you know. Also, you need to fill out a separate GS Scholarship when you turn in the application for admission in order to be considered for their scholarships. Good luck :)

I saw it!! I’m a comm major and my finaid is on URSA!

Could you see it before? When was the last time you checked it vmason?

I’ve never seen it until just now and believe me I checked 10 times a day, every day!!

Wow, are they at work at UCLA already?
