I am an out of state applicant from Louisiana, and I am applying to this 8 year combined program. The website specifically states that preference will be given to in-state students. The minimum SAT requirement is 1300 with a 3.5 GPA. Would a 1490/2230, with 3.9/4.2 have a decent chance while having the out of state residency?

Do participants of this program get merit aid similar to regular applicants, such as the 10K scholarship, etc. or are there separate scholarships for 8-year bs/md students?

Also, participants in this program are honors students, whom i learned live separately in the Shippee dorms. How are those dorms?

Also, i have close friends in Boston whom id like to visit at my convenience. Since UConn does not allow freshman to have cars on campus, is there somewhere i can park my car?

If you are a current student, do you recommend the school?

Since UConn boasts having millions to spend on its facilities, are they as state of the art as im imagining? (especially the science labs)

Thank you for your time.

if you can answer any of those questions, id appreciate it.

Your numbers sound good for the combined program, but the OOS status will definitely hurt. You'll still get into the university and the honors program, even if not the CPiM/CPiD.

I'm sure that they get merit scholarships, though I don't know the details.

Shippee is for freshman honors students; in other words, only for first year. Although I didn't live in Shippee, I was there quite often; the rooms are big, very nice, each room has its own bathroom, the building is extremely nice. Biggest downside is that it's far away from everything else. It's way out on the edge of campus.

There are other, non-university owned lots on or around campus where you can park. Some (like farmer Brown's) are very expensive, others less so. One of my friends found a nearby church that let him park in their lot, for a fee, while he was a freshman. The university allows you to get a parking permit based on # of credits; you can get a permit if you have 54 cr. So unless you're coming in with a lot of AP/IB/CC credits, you probably won't be able to get a university permit until after 3rd or 4th semester.

I definitely recommend the school; especially for the honors students, there are tons of opportunities. But it's not for everybody; it's in the middle of nowhere, so that is important to keep in mind.

UConn is making big improvements with those millions of dollars, albeit a little slowly. The newer buildings are amazing; the old ones, not so much. As for labs, I can only comment on the ones I've had for science classes: they're okay. I'm sure the actual research labs are much more impressive (hopefully I'll find out first hand next semester).

im first year in the combined program. i got in with like a 4.1 weighted and a 32 act and nothing extrmely impressive with like community service/medical experience. i was also from ct. id say theres no harm in applying, out of state might be a lil tough but hey its worth a shot. id say the one thing that pulled me in to the interview stage was my essay, and then from there just make a real good impression on the people who interview you and the med school admissions dean.

you do live in shippee. if you do get into the program youll probably live on the 4th floor on either a or b wing, depending if youre a boy or girl. i say this cause the best rooms in shippee are c wing rooms, which have their own bathroom. you dont get those rooms (or atleast my year and year before didnt get those rooms). and they roomyou with someone else in the med or dental program.

theyll give you a scholarship thatll probably cover tuition (they gave me like a 7k/year deal for instate, idk whatll happen for OOS). theres not really a seperate scholarship for bs/md students.

parking the first poster pretty much covered. i wouldnt pay to park at farmer browns. its right behind a sketch frat house and i kno kids who have gotten their cars messed up there. id say make friends with people who have cars.

i highly recommend uconn. its a real sweet deal, i guess moresoif youre instate but still sweet nonetheless. and yeah the facilities are getting a lot better, i was skeptical about the same thign too. the science labs are nice.
