I was accepted to Uconn EA and into their honors program. The information I received indicated that all honors students live in the same dorms together and I'd like some opinions on this.

Although I am focused on my studies, they're not all I care about and I'd like to have the "typical college experience" of making friends, partying etc. and I'm worried that I may be unhappy stuck with the same people who sit in their rooms and study all the time. Does anyone know anything about this situation ? Thank you !

Go visit the campus and ask to see the dorms. My son decided not to go into the honors program, because he did not like the honors dorms. He wanted to have that college experience. However, the dorm he got placed in (non honors) stinks anyways, but is more convenient to his classes. His whole social life has become the fraternity that he joined. So I guess it really depends on the people who randomly end up in your dorm. You can always change dorms the next year. If you really want the honors program, go for it. Get involved in some clubs, etc. Base your decision on the honors program itself, not just on the dorm.

By the way, he loves UConn and really likes his roommate. He said that he is disappointed that school is ending in 2 months!

I also was accepted into honors and since I am in-state, I have the benefit of knowing a lot of people who go to UCONN. According to them, the honors dorm is just as crazy if not crazier then the others, because a lot of students feel like the “typical college experience” is their reward for their hard work in high school.

Do not worry at Buckley(the honors dorm) you will have just as much of a chance to experience a so called typical college experience and everyone in there still parties and goes out so you have nothing to worry about.

I’m going to Honors too, and that was one of my concerns… My cousin goes there and has lived in the dorm next to Buckley (honors dorm). She said that honors kids party a lot and are pretty normal. You definitely won’t be stuck with boring people, and even if you don’t think the people there are fun enough, it’s not like you can’t make other friends :)
