My son was accepted in the UConn Honors program for Computer Engineering with a 1/2 tution scholarship.

He was also accepted in WPI but the merit aid he received, though higher than UConn, will still leave a substantial amount to be paid out of pocket.

All in all, it will cost 100K more to attend WPI than UConn for a four year degree.

Our question is: Is a BS degree from WPI worth 100K more than a BS from UConn with honors?

All opinions are welcome! TIA.

This is a subjective question, but personally, I would say no, it is not worth $100k more unless there is something tangible evidence to suggest that WPI offers something that UConn does not, and that is worth $100k.

Philosopher,

thanks for your feedback. Apart from UConn’s web site, do you know of any sources with information on the quality and prestige of the UConn honors program in engineering?

Hmmm I’m not exactly sure what sites. If you’re looking for engineering rankings, perhaps something like USNews. More importantly, I would look at graduate placement. Perhaps a call to the University’s career services could serve you well…
