UConn or Georgetown

I saw a similar post and couldn't resist the temptation to ask the opinion of the esteemed parents of CC. S has been accepted to Uconn and my x, his mother, has strongly recommended he go there because she did. I have kindly recommended he attend Georgetown my alma mater of which I am an active donor to the school, I'm involved with alumni relations and various fund raisers etc.

Given that the financial packages are about the same In my opinion S should decide on his own but with his mother practically brainwashing uconn into his system he's leaning away from what I think is the best option.

Is there anyone else here with a similar issue?

He's going to college...not mom or dad. In my opinion...the student should make this decision, especially since he has the luxury of not needing to consider the costs.

If the financial package is the same the student should decide. My parents said nothing about any of the colleges I was considering beyond what the financial options would be, and I respect them immensely for it.

Seems like the two are very different in terms of the college campus and experience that would come with Georgetown vs UConn.

I know what I would pick (Georgetown) but I love DC and am into the political scene.

Clearly, it's his decision and what a great gift he has to choose between two great schools and not worry about the money! However, he's not just choosing a college, he's choosing a HOME for the next 4 years and should go where he feels is the best fit. It may be that his mom is more persuasive, but it could also be that UConn felt more comfortable to him than Georgetown.

No matter what, he needs to make the decision and frankly, I wouldn't want him to think I had talked him into it--in case he isn't happy. It should be all his--the choice and the consequences of that choice.

My husband and I vacillated over what we thought was the best fit for our son. And we let S know our back-and-forth opinions. Drove him crazy.
In the end, he picked one and is happy (and doesn't give us any credit for the decision!)
