UCONN-Stamford: Am I qualified?

So entering my senior year of high school, and I was looking into UCONN’s regional campuses as a better fit according to my grades and scores. Had a rough junior year between injuries from football season and a general overloaded schedule. As a result grades tanked, but still had a decent 3.05 weighted gpa in spring. I know I definitely will not get into Storrs my first go-around, so hoping some hard work at the Stamford location (my preference) could get me there by my sophomore year. Question to any UCONN regional alumni, parents, students out there: will I make the cut with the following resume?

-Unweighted GPA: 2.9

-SAT: 1130, 490 Math, 640 English

-ACT: 24

-Alumni Relation (father, grandfather)

-In State

-Lots of previous volunteerism, a few seasonal jobs held outside of school

-Strong essay writing/English skills (good for app?)

-Strong interviewer

-Toured Storrs campus

Honestly it doesn’t seem like the Stamford campus has very high requirements for admission, but online searches say location has anywhere from 48%-52% admission rate out of a few hundred kids. If this doesn’t work out, plan is to kick butt at a CT state school and transfer. Will update scores after 2nd SAT and ACT…

I can’t speak to the “in stone” admissions criteria for UConn Stamford but I can tell you that they are much less focused on admitting “top notch” students and more focused on giving otherwise rare opportunities to those looking to put in the work. It’s a really great opportunity for in state students. I know many people with stats near or worse than yours (many with no excuses) and little to no ECs. I do not believe you will have very much trouble.

I recommend touring the campus at Stamford. I’ve heard it’s surprisingly beautiful.

Thank you so much for your response and I’m hoping to have a strong senior year to at least show the potential I have despite the low scores on paper. Just to ask would you happen to have any advice on how I may be able to show to admissions that I’m ready to put in hard work at the school? Also planning on touring campus by at least early fall, and really looking forward to it… thanks again
