I applied for admission to UConn Storrs campus for regular decision in early December. Today I was notified on the online student center that my application was deferred to a second committee for review;

"The Admissions Committee has completed an initial review of your application for admission. At this time, the committee has deferred your application for a second review. Due to the high volume of applications, the committee requires additional time to complete a thorough review of all candidates. We fully understand your desire to receive a timely decision on your request for admission and appreciate your patience regarding this important process. Please submit a copy of your Mid-Year Grades and any additional information you would like the committee to consider as part of the second review."

I thought I had a pretty strong application, 9.8 out of 12 GPA, honors courses, varsity football, strong essay, good reccomendations, 600 writing 590 math 540 writing on SATs, work experience, extra curriculars, and a little volunteering. So can someone answer me what the above paragraph even means? How long does the second committee take? And what are some possible reasons for me not being accepted? Also, what course of action should I take to improve my chances of being accepted now? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
