What does this mean? (UCONN Letter)

Well I applied and got this letter in the mail… I don’t get it.

“… The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, but a final decision has not been reached. The committee will render a final decision on your admission by March 21, 2005. At this time, you are not required to send additional academic documents to our office. We fully understand your desire to receive a timely decision on your request for admission and appreciate your patience regarding this important process. Thank you for your continued interest in the Univ. of Conn.”

Is this a maybe? Im assuming this is not a good thing, so Why not just tell me now?

Thanks

I think its just telling you they have all you're stuff & are still in the process of reviewing apps and you should know by March 21st. Good Luck!!!

Well I applied way back in Novemeber, Early Action(I think my 'completed' application was final after the deadline for EA though) and I know people are getting accepted already to the school, so I don't think its a standard, we've received your application letter, as I've already gotten one of those.

You were deferred. It means you might get in, you might not at regular decision time.

If you really want to go there send a letter about how great you are and how it is your top choice.

I agree. You were deferred. My S got a deferral letter from Michigan that never used the word "deferred" but that is what it comes down too. However, his asked specifically for the mid year report as well. Though yours did not, if the Report is favorable, I would have your counselor send it along with a brief letter on how much you want to go to the school.

Alright, See, I wouldn't have known I was deferred if I hadn't asked... Ow well. I assume if I wasn't accepted early action, then I won't be regular right? What are my chances? I don't really understand it as my stats are above the averags for the University but whatever. Another question... do Early Action applicant get one of two responses? Either Accepted or Deferred? Or is there also out right Rejection during Early Action?

Why the **** did they just not say deferred? would of been much less confusing, but thanks.

HIya,

We got the thin letter, too, from U.Conn., on an EA app. But it said, "We are not offering you admission at this time." I wondered if this meant there might be a different decision at "some other time." =). However, now that I read the language from your letter, I think yours is more likely to be an app. still in process.

Ambiguous languange all the way around - perhaps this EA business has the colleges as confused as it has some of the rest of us old timers trying to guide kids through a process that is somewhat different from the one we experienced lo before the flood.

Good luck on the rest of your apps - and here's hoping that you are accepted RD if U.Conn. is your first choice!

I got this letter too. I applied EA and I assumed they did not want to reject me outright, but also weren't prepared to make an EA decision. I also got my app in the last day of the EA deadline, so I'm sure that didn't help much either.

Monday is March 21. Think we will get a response next week sometime? The letter just said that they would make a decision by then.

I live in Conn and thought that UConn had a rolling admission. Not so? Do colleges with rolling admissions have EA? What ever happened with your "deferred" letter? Was that what it was, and did you ever get in?

Hi, Just a FYI, I got waitlisted at UConn.

I think they have a semi-rolling admission, Im really not sure though. It seems like some people got their decisions in January while others got theirs late-March(like me).
