Hi, all, I was accepted to Bentley for Computer Information Systems and UConn for Management Information Systems (School of Business).

I was wondering if anyone can give me input on which program would be better?

I understand UConn is MIS vs Bentley's CIS, but the courses are very similar, still.

Does anyone have comments on the Information Systems route through these universities?

Thank you

So it looks like Bentley puts a lot of emphasis on business/finance. So does the UConn business school, but my guess is that you’d probably get a more specialized experience in that subject at Bentley. If that’s what you’re looking for, that’s awesome, but I’m pretty sure UConn’s CS department is larger/better. Correct me if I’m wrong, but CS is a considerable part of the two majors you listed.

The UConn Business is pretty highly esteemed. It’s difficult to transfer into, so it’s good that you’ve been accepted directly into it. Honestly I don’t really know much about the business school, but I’ve only heard good things. The CS department is for the most part pretty good too. There will be some courses that will make you want to throw your computer out the window, but overall the professors are decent to good, and the department as a whole is pretty strong.

I’ve heard about the MIS program a bit, and basically it sounds like graduates have excellent employment opportunities. So you’ll be near guaranteed a job at either school if you make it through the program. I would say UConn probably has a more balanced program split between business/CS, and Bentley might focus more on the business and only teach you the CS where it’s necessary. That’s just my take from glancing at Bentley quickly though, so you might want to ask university representatives what each program focuses on, and then decide which focus best meets your interests.
