UCONN vs Clemson

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what would be a much better option for me?

UCONN: Management and Engineering for Manufacturing

Clemson: Industrial Engineering

How is the job placement at UCONNs MEM? I know Clemson has a great placement rate but the only downside is that I don't want to work in the south. I like the Clemson's weather and campus as much as UCONNs weather and campus. Also, how is mechanical engineering at UCONN and Clemson?

Thanks guys!

Hey Equation - I’m originally from the Boston area and I’m currently at Clemson majoring in civil engineering. I don’t know too much about the industrial/mechanical engineering programs at Clemson but engineering is the most popular major at Clemson and it’s probably one of our strongest programs if not the strongest. Mechanical engineering is the largest major on campus. I have no doubt UConn also has a solid program but think Clemson has an edge academically. In terms of job placement, while many students choose to stay in the south after graduation that’s probably because 60% of students are from South Carolina and want to stick around the area. If you want to work outside of the South, you definitely can. I know people who have graduated and are working in San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, and the Boston area (and really all over the place). You’re definitely not limited at all in your options after college geographically.

If you’ve got any questions about Clemson or about the South, feel free to let me know!

Thanks so much! I’m definitely going to apply to Clemson now! Also, my only other concern is that since Clemson is in the south it might be a bit racist? I’m half white-half indian guy so…

Well I’m chinese haha - I think the South gets a pretty bad rap for being “racist” probably because of its past. Yes there are racist people at Clemson but there are also just as many racist people everywhere else (aka not many). I have no idea what it “used to be like” but it’s never bothered me.
