Hi guys,
I got accepted to Virginia Tech and Clemson, and i am having a HARD time deciding where i want to go. I live in Ga, and i wanna stay closer to home. Georgia Tech was my first choice, but i got denied. I want to be a computer/mechanical engineer and/or study business. I think Vt has a better engineering school, but Clemson is closer.
Also, i was hearing about alot of racism at Clemson. Im black, and i know there will be racism everywhere i go, but i dont want to be in an environment where i have to deal with that constantly.
ALSO, i am very serious about racing and i race karts competitively. There are NO tracks in Vt, but Clemson has one thats about 3 hrs away.
Can someone give me some input?

I’m an asian from Boston at Clemson and I don’t know if I haven’t been running into the wrong people lol but I haven’t run into any racism whatsoever so if that helps. I don’t think it’s any worst at Clemson than at Virginia Tech. Sure there are racist people here but I haven’t had any problems or heard any while I have been here.

Go with where you feel more comfortable! Clemson has an excellent engineering school too. In the end, I would go where you are happiest either VT or Clemson because if you go to a school where you aren’t happy, you won’t perform as well academically.

Let me know if you have any more questions! My first two choices were also Virginia Tech and Clemson for civil engineering and I picked Clemson.

My son is a junior Computer Engineering major at Clemson in the honors college. He loves Clemson. He had a hard time selecting between VT and Clemson. We are from PA, so he actually is farther from home. The student body is so friendly and I think you get more individualized attention at Clemson. He studies really hard in the engineering program. I think the engineering program is excellent. In US News and World , Clemson is ranked higher than VT overall, but in enginnering VT is ranked higher. However, the engineering ranking is totally subjective based on professors opinion, not an any data. I think both schools will give you an excellent education in engineering. Clemson is also ranked #3 in collecge placement , so they will be successful in helping you find a job. The atmosphere at Clemson is so warm and welcoming and he has great friends. He also is participating in the coop program and has had a very good job with this program.

Thank you so much! That was great feedback. I was wondering where they get the results for the college rankings. Im going to apply myself alot, because i want to get a very good job. I guess job placement depends on the person. Just because you go to a more popular school doesnt mean that you will get payed more. I know a guy that graduated from the Citadel and made a starting salary of $125,000 starting out for Apple. I also know another guy that graduated from the Citadel that PARKS CARS :/

It’s all about the amount of work experience you get during college and amount of effort you put into your studies (aka GPA!). If you can get some experience through internships or co-op positions and keep your grades up you will have no problem getting a job at almost any school.
