UConn vs. Ohio State

I have been accepted into the music programs at both UConn and Ohio State, but am torn between the two. I would be double majoring in Cello Performance and something else. UConn is about an hour and a half away, and OSU is about a 10 hour drive (or hour long flight).

What can you guys tell me about these schools?

JC74811,

I can’t tell you much about those schools, but have included you over in the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a-58.html</a></p>

Can you tell me more about your degree plans at each school - BM in cello performance plus another music-related major, BM in cello with a BA in something else, or what?

Also, if you have any other acceptances as a music major beside UConn and Ohio State, we would like to include those as well.

I know nothing of the classical music schools at either, but my daughter spent some 1on1 time w/ the director of the jazz department at Ohio State and he was very generous with his time given that she was a junior in high school at the time. The OSU campus is beautiful and well maintained, whereas UConn is pretty bland and basic. Both have great basketball teams if that matters (it didn’t to my D) so it makes for some good entertainment options (football is huge at OSU). Personally, I’m sure your family will love having you 1.5 hours away, but you really want to immerse yourself in school 110% so you should only be visiting home once a semester or less once you get settled. 10 hours seems far, but you’ll eventually find rides to share and that becomes less of a big deal as time goes on.

My post #16 here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1093491-music-education-ithaca-college-vs-suny-fredonia.html?highlight=uconn</a> reflects my thoughts on UCONN. Granted, the thread was originally about music ed/viola.
