UConn vs. Ohio State

So I've narrowed it down to 2 schools. I got into both music programs, but I will most likely end up double majoring in some other non-music field.

UConn -
Pros: Close to home, great academics, nice campus.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to do off campus, in the middle of no where.

OSU
Pros: Amazing campus, great academics, great schools pride, plenty to do around the area.
Cons: Double the size of UConn, Far from home.

What can you guys tell me about the two? How hard is it going to school far from home?

Thanks!

—> TOSU

“Cons: Double the size of UConn, Far from home.”

Double the resources, capacities, and opportunities imho.

What can you guys tell me about the two? How hard is it going to school far from home?

Distance from home…, I thought that was a plus in my case as I made so many new life-long friendship as a result as an young adult. Thanks to the down-to-earth midwestern vibe across the diversified campus. The truth of the matter is, with nearly 1,000 student organizations and city life, I rarely if ever missed home. I enjoyed my time both on and off-campus because Columbus has so much to offer to the students in terms of endless activities. However, I can certainly relate to those who wish to stay closer to home.

Well, didn’t UConn President just resigned and left for UIUC (the better school academically according to him?). So long as we are not talking about Bball, TOSU is imo slightly higher rated academically than UConn in terms of most majors and reputation as a whole. In addition to the state-of-the-art facilities, numerous top-notched faculties led by one of the most respected collegiate President in the country, the school is currently excelling the momentum to become one of the Top-10 national public universities as outlined in the recently published campus master plan. In short, though UConn is also a wonderful and respected public university in the NE region of the country, if cost is not a factor to you, I’d certainly suggest TOSU over UConn.

Cost being equal, I would go with OSU. Both schools have cheating coaches- OSU in football and UConn in basketball, so they are pretty equal there.
UConn always strikes me as not terribly inspiring. That said, OSU isn’t worth a fortune in out of state tuition.
