I'd be majoring in business. I don't think I got right into UCONN business but I can transfer in somewhat easily I believe since I listed undecided i believe.

Anyway, I love sports and being social. But it's important to graduate with a good education where I can get good jobs, and still have a great time. Props cons of both? Help!!!

Thanks

They do not really compete with one another. UConn is on a whole other level. I hope this helps.

Anyone else agree/disagree? I'm going to have to strongly disagree on it being on a whole diffrent level. For one, they are BOTH state schools. Two, both have somewhat good business programs, neither a TOP TOP one or horrible one. When you compare there GPA/SATs, UCONN has a SLIGHT edge. Where is the whole diffrent level, not trying to be rude..but thats the first time I've ever heard it,

Speaking to friends, family, college kids, and teachers..it seems like most say neither is really much better or worse, and where I will be happy is most important since the academics are pretty close.

I am sorry if you disagree, but I am just trying to tell you how it is.

Have you visited either school? I have never been to UConn, I just hear that they have done a tremendous amount to improve their facilities and overall campus appearance, ane will continue to do do more. I did visit UB with my son when he was looking for colleges, and I liked the campus (athough it is somewhat sterile), while my son hated it and would never go there. You will need to evaluate the respective environments (both the campus and surroundings) and decide whether they are to your liking. Me, I am a NY resident and I would choose UB in a heartbeat. If I lived in Ct, I would consider myself lucky and go to UConn because I love big-time college basketball (there really is no comparison in that area anyway!) and UConn is a good and very up-and-coming Uniersity. Academically though I disagree with Omniscient, in most areas there is not enough difference to justify going out-of-state. There are in fact pretty much on the "same level".

UConn. Not even close. Both in terms of the school and prestige. I visited and liked it a lot. They're doing a lot to up the reputation. Gorgeous buildings, gorgeous campus. I didnt apply because I felt like it was too secluded for me. UConn has more major sports. BTW, in terms of the big time basketball, they've struggled recently. The program is nowhere near as good as it was like 4-5 years ago. Still, i'd choose it over UB in a heartbeat.

not as good as 4-5 years ago? lol

.....yes? They arent that good anymore....17-14 this past year. 12th in the Big East. They were good the year before, but still, the program is declining.

i know...it was sarcasm

baseball89: I continue to maintain that in terms of academic quality alone, there is (overall) not much difference between these two schools. There will of course be differences department-to-department, but thhere is not the clear differentiation that others here have suggested.

Thabeet is coming back, along with everyone else...UConn should be pretty good next year, you would think a lock for the tourney

Not much of a difference between these schools..if youre not in state for either of them id go to UConn though

Prestige? What rot. Academically (quality-wise), UConn and SUNY Buffalo are closer than some on this thread would have you believe. At this time UConn's reputation is largely earned from athletic success, which is fine. They are turning sports success into greater alumni donations and support from the state, i.e. there new construction all over the campus. Does that make the UConn undergraduate business program better than what can be had at SUNY Buffalo? Not particularly.

wow you people are dumb

no that would be you. Whats so great about UConn? For many disciplines, SUNY Buffalo is a better school than UConn..I have no idea about business but i would imagine that theyre pretty close..its not like UConn has a great business school. Im sorry, but if you go to UConn or you support it, that doesnt qualify you to be an elitist of any kind.

UConn has a very good business school. Much better than UB's.

Did you know that UConn Business was ranked higher than Boston College's Carroll School of Management in the 2006 US News Graduate Business School rankings (a much better indicator than the undergrad rankings, in terms of business school strength). Our dean stepped down that year, which brought our rankings down a bit. Now, we have a new dean that is believed by most to be capable of bringing us back to the 2006 level, even higher. Uh oh!

im not in Carroll, and im transferring out of BC, so your point?

and everyone knows that Carroll is a decent school for UG but nobody would ever want to earn their MBA there. I suppose graduate rankings only are more important because they rank UConn higher than BC? Convenient, isnt it?

lol "and everyone knows that Carroll is a decent school for UG but nobody would ever want to earn their MBA there. I suppose graduate rankings only are more important because they rank UConn higher than BC? Convenient, isnt it?".......wow

what was your comment there? I missed it...I suppose this is why the OP should go to SUNY Buffalo, to avoid people like you.
