UCR English Majors Acceptance Rate???

Hi I’m a Senior right now in NoCal planning on going to UCR to be an English major! Going through the UC Riverside threads here I can’t seem to find any stories on UCR English majors getting accepted.

I’m wondering with my preliminary GPA of 2.96 and SAT score of 1140/1600, would I have a good chance of getting into the major? I know my GPA is not the best but I have many AP classes and extracurriculars to back me up. Being in a high leadership position and a long member of clubs I hope my chances are okay.

You need a UC GPA of 3.0 minimum to apply to any UC as an in-state applicant and even at a 3.0, your chances are a Low Reach.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39

UCB/UCLA/UCSD: 1%
UCI/UCSB: 2%
UCD: 4%
UCSC: 18%
UCR: 38%
UCM: 67%

Would you know any good Non-UC colleges that are great for English by any chance?

Look at the many Cal States such as CSU Fullerton, Sac State, Sonoma State, CSU Stanislaus, San Francisco State etc…

For Privates, Mt St Marys, Whittier College, Concordia of Irvine, Univ of Redlands

English is a common major at all colleges, so you can get a good education at all these schools.

Nothing is impossible but UCR is really unlikely.
Sonoma would be my first recommendation for English. That said, most CSUs have solid programs as well,. Your stats will keep you out of SDSU, CSULB, Chico, CP SLO as well as Fullerton, Fresno and Northridge… There are still lots op options. .
Apply to several and see what happens
good luck.

I’m not able to get into Cal Poly Pomona?

CPP could be an option. You will fulfill the GE requirements for the CSU’s also besides the UC’s?

maybe - especially if you are 'local. but, not for the more competitive majors.

I was accepted to UCR but declined. I’m an English Major at UCLA but here are my two+ cents.

If you’re ok with private and the hefty price tag, LMU (Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles) has a great English program. They also have a journalism minor which is unique as most schools don’t have it.

SDSU’s English program isn’t bad either.

Best of luck! We could always use more English majors in the world!
