UCR Transfer Fall 2019 Thread

Hey all! I was admitted on the 6th for electrical engineering and here are my stats in case your curious

Decision: Admitted
Major: Electrical Engineering
CC: Riverside city college
GPA (Currently): 3.63
Pre-reqs: Finishing up the last 3 this semester
TAG?: No

Best of luck to anyone still waiting!

@kristinpete yeah, that’s why I’m worried. Anyways, fingers crossed till April. I checked my personal insight questions through my sister and some of her friends who is at UCB, she said it all looks good. Although, my plan is to get into UCI since I did my tag in there. Can’t wait till April.

@frazi78 hopefully that’s good.
But when you failed the ochem class, did they replace your F grade with AR(academic renewal) after you repeated it and got a C?

Because if that happens, your 2.87 GPA might have been changed a little bit.

Also, You know if you could not get in this year, it would be good if you can find an internship for next year, it will look more appealing to UC than taking more random classes. Then, your application will have more chance.

@AeroDE It’ll all work out some way or other. No need to worry…especially if you tagged. UCI is great and is only getting better.

hopefully tomorrow release!

@UCtransfer951 Finally got my financial Aid package. You were right; I got the blue and gold, which covered all of my fees, and an extra $13000 from the Cal Grant, plus a $5500 stipend from the Pell Grant. Altogether, it added up to about $28000, which means I’d have to pay about $7000 a year, which is way less than USC, or probably any other UC (apart from maybe Merced.)
I’m now considering UCR seriously, because I ain’t finna spend over $10000 a year if I have a choice.

@hopefultrojan123 Yeah I think it is a glitch! I have the same two alerts and I already opened it , but it won’t go away

@UCtransfer951 any advice on how i can increase my chances of getting in next year take more classes and get my gpa up? whats the cut out for units when it comes to UC by next semester ill have 90 units already

@frazi78 There is no cutoff for the number of units you take at a CC. If you’ve taken classes at a 4-year though, it’s a different story.

@BBoy99 Where did you find your financial aid package? I’m checking RWeb and I don’t see anything :((

@BBoy99 my buddy 2 years ago transferred from MSJC to USC for business admin (marshall school of buisness). He took out over like 40k in loans for 2 years, and he was unable to find an internship or high paying job while going there. If you have plans to do masters or PhD, I definitely recommend the most affordable undergrad program and the one you think you will be the most successful in.

@frazi78 Aren’t you done with IGETC and all your major prep classes? It’s hard to say. Did you apply to any cal states? There are some definitely good cal states out there… SDSU… Cal Poly SLO… Cal Poly Pomona… and San Jose State. Moreover, if you don’t get in, you’ll probably be on the waitlist for UCR, but you do have a shot of getting in the more I think about your stats.

@BBoy99 there are some apartments for UCR, that you can get for 500 a month, which would cut down the cost dramatically from your estimate of 28,000. I recommend you send a housing application right now; Transfer students are not guaranteed housing, but they told me as soon as you get accepted you should send a housing application in.

Thank you @UCtransfer951 yes i have finished IGETC and major prep classes will be done by the end of this semester. i did apply to SJSU and sac state but was denied because i never took a communication class that fulfill golden 4 requirement since i was always focused on UC schools i finished IGETC if that makes any sense i really i get into one of the UC if not ill try to boost my GPA up and hope for the best next year im already 23 so i feel like i’ve wasted so much time but part of that is i moved to US from a different country 5 years ago and had alot of hurdles i.e getting used to the culture and language while also taking tough classes i also mentioned this in my personal insight questions. fingers crossed thank you all this forum has been encouraging. P.S just in case if i were to get on waitlist how would i go about that?

@frazi78 your story really resonated with me. I know how it feels like you’re just trying to stay afloat sometimes .I was born in Mexico and I struggled as a first generation college student. I’m 22, going to be 23 next month, and I felt the same way like I was taking longer than my peers. I just wanted to tell you that this is your journey. Everyone has their own and maybe yours took a little longer but that doesn’t make you a failure. I’ve heard UC’s look at application more holistically than cal states so hopefully they’ll see more than just your GPA. They’ll see how hard you worked to get to this point especially fighting against culture shock. You have a story to tell but don’t let that define you. Even if you don’t get in, make sure to work even harder to raise that GPA and stand out for next years application

@animalscience1 thank you so much!! We just have to keep our head high

@UCtransfer951 I’m hoping to go to Medical School, so minimizing undergrad costs is definitely the way to go.
Also, thanks for the advice on getting an apartment! I think I might SIR, to make sure I get housing. In case I get a better deal from another UC (which is unlikely), I can always retract my SIR.

@vrios95 I called the financial Aid office on Friday, and they told me my financial Aid package over the phone. I just forgot to mention it.

Finally, I asked an admissions officer about when the rest of the decisions would come out when I was asking about my FA package, and they told me that they’re not even closed to finished with rolling out acceptances. Just hang in there guys! Your acceptances will come sooner than you think.

@BBoy99 Where else did you apply? I have a 4.0 gpa, IGETC completed and major prep classes completed. I got accepted to every UC last year. UCLA, Berkeley, UCSB all did not give me regents. UCSB doesn’t even have regents for transfer students. I got regents from UCR last year (5k), UCSD (2.5k), and UC Davis would have given me 7.5k i’m pretty sure. To get Regents at UCLA and Berkeley is pretty hard, you have to have tons of ec’s, perfect GPA, and fill out an app. But yeah, you can pretty much expect to have the same reward you got at UC Riverside for any other school. And btw, UC Riverside will be way easier to keep high GPA for graduate school.

@UCtransfer951 I have a 3.94 GPA (I got a B in Gen Chem 1) as a Bio major. I also have all my pre-reqs done.
I applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, UC Davis, UC Merced, USC, Vanderbilt and Cornell.
I’m honestly really considering going to UC Merced and UCR even if I get accepted to all of the above, because, as you said, it’ll probably be a little easier to do well at UCM or UCR as compared to, say, UCLA. A lot of people are telling me I’m a dumbass for thinking like that (including my siblings), but I’m intending to go wherever is best for med school. Grad schools couldn’t care less where you get your degree from.

I’m also factoring in that UCR and UCM are going to have significantly more opportunities for research, and to get involved in the community than at a huge, established school.

Congrats on getting the regents at UCR and UCSD btw! Ngl, I was kinda hoping I’d get it for UCR, but I’m just happy I was accepted.

Hi everyone, I haven’t received any admission decision. I am a psych major with an 3.77 gpa but TAG with UC Irvine. Not sure if anyone is also waiting too for a decision or should I just assumed I got declined?

@LunaLeandra I also tag to UCI, still did not get any notifications.

Someone in UCI Fall 2019 thread posted saying “Based on the past two years, some TAG applicants heard back on March 19/21 and the decisions continued in waves after.”

So I believe either end of March or early April, they will send out their decisions for the tag.
