i only applied to CSu's and got accepted to Long Beach for next fall 2006. i'm from the Bay Area, Norcal. is LongBeach that much better than some of the Norcal CSU's like SFSU, SJSU, Sonoma, etc? that its worth it to go to go to a school so far away rather than the schools in the bay area?

i think of long beach being the third best csu after cal poly slo and sdsu. i would choose cal poly slo, sdsu, and csulb over ucr, but only because of location. other than those three cal states, i would choose ucr over the rest. ..... csulb by the way has a significantly better rep than sfsu, sjsu, and sonoma state.

UCR is not that bad a place to live....I'm a graduate student there. It's not LA, that's for sure, but it's better and has a more unique feel than places like Irvine for sure. There's tons of outdoors activities with the desert at your door step (joshua tree national park is 1/2 hour away. Downtown LA is an hour away, and there are tons of things to do in the inland empire. Aside from that, UCR is a major research institution with resources that simply dwarf CSULA...visit both and just take a look at their respective libraries, for example.

I don't know much about UCR's programs outside of the sciences, so I'll defer judgement on the quality of the business major to others!

cheers,
CUgrad

rly723 -- I think Long Beach is a fine school. It has highly regarded programs and a vibrant student community. It has a very different "feel" from SJSU and SFSU. It is more difficult to get in than most other CSU's (Cal Poly SLO and SDSU being the exceptions) for whatever that's worth. When my daughter was looking she was particulary interested in the residential community since she was concerned about it being labeled a commuter school and was pleasantly surprised at what she found. Although she ultimately chose a school out of state, had she decided to stay instate CSULB was a top contender. I suggest you take a good look at it to compare it with SFSU and SJSU for your interests and the fit you feel.

wow... thanks for all the wonderful information and advice. i really think i am going to chose ucr now. i just talked to a friend also that has friends who really liked it there.

I suggest visits if you can do it, maybe staying a few days, talking to people at each school. It might help you out a lot.

what has everyone heard about northridge vs. ucr in temrs of business? or in general? as well as for fullerton? i think those are the two csu's i would actuallly get into that ive heard somewhat good things about. no real reasons just statements. so if anyone has any information on fullerton and northridge that would be great. if you got into UCR , fullerton and northridge for business administration which one would you choose and why?
