Hey, so I just got a 33 on my October ACT (34 E, 32 M, 32 R, 32 S, 10 W), and I got a 32 in june (32 R, 34 M, 34 R, 28 S, 28 W). My writing, science, and english went up, but my math and reading went down. Since I am applying for a STEM major, do you think I should send both scores, or just the better one? I know colleges pay more attention to the science and math sections for STEM majors, and I did better on math before.
UC’s require all scores. They take the highest composite score from a single sitting.
So, I am required to send all of my scores?
Yes
“For the ACT with Writing test, we will focus on the highest combined score from the same test administration.”
From the website ^ , where does it say that they want all ACT scores?
You send them all scores but they take the highest ACT score from a single sitting. ACT is different than the SAT, since you have to select specific test dates to send. You can go ahead and send a single sitting, but if the UC’s find out you did not send all scores there could be repercussions. There is no disadvantage in sending all scores since they will take the highest composite score.
For the SAT, they do not allow score choice so you have to send all SAT scores.
This is from the UCB website:
Report ACT and/or SAT scores on your admissions application, then request that an official copy of the scores be sent to us from the testing agency. You can have your official score report sent to one UC campus, and all campuses you apply to will receive it.
In the College Board’s Score Choice module, ensure that all scores are sent to UC. We require all scores and will use the highest scores from a single administration.
Okay, thanks for the info. I don’t see where it explicitly says you have to send all, and it’s not that I don’t want them to see all of them. It’s just a lot of extra money
I agree that it is not clear at all that all ACT scores have to be sent, for exactly the wording @finessedolphin posted. They refer to sending all scores from collegeboard which is SAT, but have ACT in the separate paragraph they listed above and it does not say it specifically for the ACT. The fact they only take the highest makes one wonder why everyone should spend the extra time and money for tests they disregard. Admissions is open from 1-4pm, might be good to confirm with a phone call. I know many that interpret that to mean you only send your highest composite for ACT.
I can interpret that to mean just highest ACT, but all SATs. You would think they would be much clearer than they are on that. Collegeboard only refers to SAT.
I just spoke with UCLA admissions. They adamantly said you only need to send the highest ACT score. They said the same applies to SAT but that college board will often send them all. But you do not need to send them all. They acknowledged that may not be clear on the web site. Feel free to call them to verify, they are only open from 1-4 PST and closed tomorrow for Veterans day.
@CADREAMIN thank you for calling them! Appreciate it. That is good to know, so I’ll only send my highest SAT and ACT
