I was wondering what my chances were for the UC's and some privates. For the UC's, I applied to Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, and Santa Barbara. For privates, I applied to Columbia Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Carnegie Mellon University, and Brandeis University. Oh yes, and I'm Asian.

I think some of you guys are being overly critical. If you look at the freshman profiles on the UC's website, he's a decent match for UCD/UCI/UCSB.

84.1% of applicants with a UC GPA of 3.70-3.99 get accepted into Davis, 77.4% into Irvine, and 69% into SB. Around 60%-70% get in with his SAT scores at Davis, same for Irvine, and 40%-60% at SB. I am pretty sure he will at least get into 1 of these schools, and most likely at least 2.

Really, the only place you will run into problems with is SD/B/LA, but I wouldn't rule UCSD out just yet.

With a 1700 SAT, yes i would most deffiantly rule out UCSD as well as UCLA and UC Berkeley. They are most likely out of the question. Average admit into UCSD has a 4.04 GPA and 1940 SAT. I understand wanting to be nice, but it is deffiantly not helpfull to the poster by giving him unrealistic odds and goals of his admissions chances. I do, however agree with you that he has a shot at getting into atleast one of UCI/UCSB/UCD. But the top three UC's are a bit unrealistic.
