UC'S LOW GPA

I'm planning on majoring in computer science or engineering (open to electrical, aerospace, biomedical, computer, and mechanical). I'm mainly looking at the UC schools (all minus Merced) and the Cal Poly's (Pomona and SLO). I am constantly worrying whether or not ill even get into any of the schools since I'm applying for such competitive major.

Science: H Biology B, B; H Chemistry C, C; H Physics B, A; AP Physics (next year)

Math: Geometry B, C; Algebra 2 B, B; Pre Calculus B, A; AP Calculus (next year)

Social Studies and Electives(besides language): AP World History A, A; AP US History B, B; AP Art History A, A; AP Psychology B, B; AP Government (next year)

English: H English 9 B, B; H English 10 C, C; AP English Lang B, A; AP English Lit(next year)

1740 on my first try for the SAT and I am definitely taking it again, aiming for 2000ish in addition to the SAT Math II and Physics subject exams.

My UC GPA is around 3.65 and my extra curricular's in my opinion are above average(Student Government Treasurer, 2yrs; President of 3 clubs junior and senior year, VP of 2 in Sophomore year, Internship in an insurance office 200+ hours, 200+ hours with a major leadership position at a national non profit(actually makes a a big difference), 50+ hours in political campaigns) I'm a California resident and my nationality is East Indian.

So what are my chances with these schools I'm interested in and what major fits me best/ehat major is most likely going to get me accepted?

UCSC and UCR seem likely. The rest, not so much (other than Merced, which you aren’t interested in).

Generally, major has no impact on admission unless it is impacted.

my extra curricular’s don’t help me enough?

Comp Sci at most of the schools you are looking at is impacted. At UC Berkeley, engineering applications are evaluated in the College of Engineering, not the general applications process. At some of the schools comp sci is offered through the engineering school and another school. Your chances through the engineering school at UCLA and Berkeley seems to be reaches to me, but the personal statement on your application can have a major impact on how your application is perceived.

At several of the UCs (and at SLO), the major you pick does make a difference, especially in STEM areas. I would do more research to see what your best bets are. Luckily for you all the UCs accept the same application, so it’s not too difficult to apply to several - it’s just that pesky application fee.
