UCSB has very high standards for acceptance. How is it possible that kids with such stellar performance in high school become hedonistic partiers when they get to college? Where is the disconnect? I have been assured that the reputation is well deserved. Will an introvert feel out of place at USCB?

Most schools can also be party schools. You actually think they don’t party at Princeton? Go by the eating clubs on a weekend. Back in the day Jane Fonda was reported to be swinging from the ceiling at a party there.

My Tufts nephew swears that the best parties are at MIT…that’s where they all trot to on the weekends. They just hop on the public transportation and they’re there.

Kids party at virtually all schools except maybe bible colleges.

Virtually anytime you get a bunch of 18-22 year olds in one place, you’re going to have some fun and partying.

There’s partying at Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, etc…it’s everywhere.

Anyway…about your concern…

Non-partiers can do fine at party schools. Keep in mind that most kids in serious majors don’t party all the time…and don’t act in crazy hedonistic ways. My kids go/went to a known party school. It makes no difference to them. My shy son graduated in May, and is off to top school for his PhD. My younger son is pre-med and is a very serious student…altho he is the more out-going type.

The label “party school” is rather meaningless.

Partying is everywhere, but it’s prevalent @ UCSB for many reasons…

State Street - Lots of bars and clubs
Small Community - Can’t go far so students stay local and party
Lots of students dorm or live nearby - Not a commuter school
Race/Ethnicity - 51% white… I think this has something to do with it lol

No it doesn’t. UCSB has higher admissions standards than most party schools, such as UFlorida, but standards still aren’t astronomically high.

From my past experience as a highschooler, most students attending UCSB aren’t the “smart” kids but just “better than average” and many of them were popular with vibrant social lives. (Contrary to wild stereotype, being popular doesn’t mean you need to fail all your classes.)

Dartmouth has the unofficial mascot of Keggy the Keg haha.

UCSB has higher admissions standards than most party schools, such as UFlorida,

???

**Florida…

Percent applicants admitted: 43%**

SAT Critical Reading:… 570 - 670
SAT Math:… 600 - 690
SAT Writing: - -
ACT Composite: …26 - 30

**UCSB

Percent applicants admitted: 46%**

SAT Critical Reading:… 540 - 650
SAT Math:… 560 - 680
SAT Writing: …540 - 660
ACT Composite:… 25 - 30

I wouldn’t say that UCSB has “higher admissions standards” than Florida. Where’s the proof of that???

Again, more misconceptions perpetuated about schools labeled to be “party schools”.
