UCSB ccs advice

I am a recent admit for ucsb math in CCS, and I have been wondering if I could change my major before I start my freshman year. I know that the CCS program has a lot of benefits, but I honestly don’t think it’s worth the workload for my dream as a doctor.
I would like to take the premed step and apply to med school in the future, and I have been wondering which major would be best for me. The thing is, I doubt myself for acing the regular pre-med majors(as an immigrant) and I want some sort of plan B for myself if I change my mind later.
I cannot tell whether staying at CCS math is better or taking a science course is better.

For now, I have been thinking of double majoring in data science and biochemistry for my dream and a backup plan, but I am totally unsure how that’s going to go.

I just wanted some advice from people who know better.

Thanks for reading :)))

you posted in the transfer forum but you’re a frosh; this forum is for current college students who are going from one college to another. So you could try posting in the UCSB forum, but that forum doesn’t have a lot of activity so you’re unlikely to get a bunch of responses there either.

As for your questions, you can contact CCS to see if you can change your major prior to fall semester. Nobody can tell which path is better for you, we don’t know how interested you are in medicine or how well you are likely to do in the classes, whether you’d get good recs, whether you’d do the volunteer experience needed to be a strong med school applicant, etc. Also how did you decide the “backup plan” is a good one? Have you looked and found there are lots of jobs for students graduating with biochem & data science, or are you just assuming that’s going to work out?

If you are a permanent resident and not a US citizen then you might want to research right away whether US medical schools will consider you a US applicant or put you into the pool of Indian residents applying to attend a US med school. There are few places in US med schools for non-resident applicants.
