UCSB Chancellor's Reception 2018

Hi, does anyone know if any students from Florida have ever been invited? My son would fly to the one in NY or DC in a heartbeat.

I’m certain your son will be invited to one if he is a strong enough applicant. Those UC campuses do love that out of state $$

It’s an enjoyable event, but not really worth the cost of a plane flight IMO.

Probably not but my son has been working his butt off since 9th grade to get into UCSB so if he is invited, he’d be so excited I think he’d run there.

Good luck to him! We have a son there that loves it. There are a lot of positive things about that school.

If someone is fortunate enough to be able to drop a quarter of a million dollars for undergrad, a plane ticket is nothing to worry about. @JessicaF I hope your son gets in and loves the heck out of his time there. Really wish my son was excited about college!

Is he a Senior?

Yes. It was like pulling teeth to get him to send apps to schools a few hours from home. I guess we’ve made him too comfy at home! I wish I could give him a time machine so he could understand how important it is to enjoy these next few years. There’s nothing like it, and I wish he would just embrace it and not be so apprehensive.

Ah yes I’ve seen that in a lot of kids. I bet when he gets there, he’ll turn around. Our son was always smart, but never really had to apply himself to get good grades. But he wanted to do the IB program and we knew it took actual hard work to succeed and not just smarts. So we took him on the UC Campus tours at the end of 9th grade and we were lucky that it completely turned him around. He became the student he needed to be and we remain grateful our plan worked! I wish your son the best of luck!
