<p>HEre is an account of my experience at the reception in Los Angeles. If i missed something, add anything you want.</p>
<p>The reception began with light refreshments such as water and they gave cookies. Then we went into a large room with a panel in front with two screens on left and right sides. The program began with a welcome from the Chancellor. Then he stated that all the invited students have been ACCEPTED to UCSB!!!! I was so happy and excited!!!
The Chancellor began to state facts for why enrolling into UCSB. After, the program went to a video presentation about the college academics, college life, and academic opportunities. When it was over, there was a general question and answer panel. there was a break and then we were separated into different rooms depending on what college a student wanted to attend. I went to the College of Arts and Sciences to stay for its student panel. However, i did not stay for all the program.
The reception was informative and helpful. It ensured of why I actually applied to UCSB and why i consider it one of my college destinations.
Congrats to all admits!!!!</p>
<p>We attended the Chancellors Reception today as well. We wanted to find out more about UCSB, as it is one of my sons top choices.
There were about 1500 people ( or more ) in a very large room at the LAX Sheraton. The speaker who was moderating the program ( one of the Deans as I recall ), first asked the invited students to stand, and they were all applauded. She then asked the parents to raise their hands, and we were applauded. As the kids began to sit down, she said stay standing, because I want you all to know that you have been accepted for admission at UCSB…
It was a VERY happy moment, and totally unexpected. Needless to say, there was a lot of cheering, applauding, smiles and tears after that. Lots of happy kids, and even more proud and happy parents!<br>
She then introduced the Chancellor, who gave a very informative 30 minute talk about the University. That was followed by a panel of administrators, faculty, and students giving their perspective on the University. A question and answer period followed that.<br>
After a break, we were given the opportunity to hear a presentation by representatives of either the College of Letters and Sciences, Engineering, or Creative Studies. We attended the Creative Studies session, and came away very, very impressed. Not only with the level of intellect displayed by both faculty and students on the panel, but more so by their commitment to making the college experience a rich and rewarding one for the students in their program.<br>
All in all, it was a wonderful day. Turns out, that when my son first sat down in this huge meeting room, unbeknownst to him, he sat down next to the Chancellor. They chatted for a while, and when the Chancellor took the podium, my son said to me, hey I sat next to him a few minutes ago and he was a very nice guy!<br>
Looks like we know which University my son is going to attend!</p>
<p>That’s a great story ThisWontHurt, congrats.</p>
<p>So naturally, everyone who got the invite and wasn’t able to attend has been accepted also?</p>
<p>I got accepted, why wasn’t I invited?! :(</p>
<p>SavetheManatees, if a student was invited to the Chancellors Reception, they have been admitted to the University.</p>
