UCSB Chances

I live in Virginia and I'm looking to go to UCSB. How likely do you think it is I get in?

1360/1600 SAT, 1920/2400

33 ACT, No writing though so I can't use it I guess

3.0 Freshman year, 3.7 sophmore year, 3.7 junior, 3.9 this year with 5 AP's

Bunch of extra curriculars

hmm very hard since you're out of state....I'd put it as a reach school

yeah, you need writing. You could standby for December ACT, but gpa is much more important to UC than test scores. You also need two Subject Test scores.

The UCs are not worth the $45k for OOS, IMO. Unless you hate cold, for that kinda money, you should consider a good private, or UMich.

I took 3 SAT Subjects.

Physics = 740/800

Math 2 = 740/800

Chemistry = 800/800

Nope. UC's are 18-25k OOS.

jacksonwalters, you can believe what you want, but the facts are exactly what bluebayou said. Why don't you post a link to an official UCSB website instead of some third-party links if you think the number is wrong?

Here, I'll do it for you: UCSB Financial Aid says $47K for OOS students on campus. UCSB Financial Aid says $44K to live off-campus.

Hm. You're right. How deceiving. I want to go to a good school for physics. Any advice?

Also, if I apply with the intention of majoring in chemistry, does that help me at all? I've had straight A's in all my chemistry classes a 5 on the AP exam and perfects on the SAT subject and state SOL.

Those tuition figures include all the extras. If you want information on just tuition itself, you can see that here:

UCSB Catalog: Undergraduate Student Fee Chart for 2007-2008

Non residents basically just have a $20,000 fee tacked on.

No. As they say on the admission webpages, which you should spend some time perusing if you're interested in UCSB, for majors in Letters & Science your intended major is NOT considered.

Better to ask that question here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/
