@barca101 Just below where it tells you which major and college you were accepted into. Not sure if all the colleges have honors programs.
Decision: Accepted!
Major: Pre- Finance Mathematics and Statistics (alternate major)
Main major was Chemical Engineering - rejected for that.
Objective:
SAT I- 1840
SAT II- Bio: 630, Math II: 620
Unweighted GPA- 3.77
AP Scores- AP Bio (3), AP Euro History (4), AP Calc AB (4), AP US History (5), AP English Language (5)
Senior Course Load- AP Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Gov, Band
Major Awards- AP Scholar, NHS, CSF
Subjective:
ECs- Key Club Officer from freshman year to senior year; Secretary/Executive Officer my senior year, Vice President of Red Cross for 2 years, Marching Band (Wind Ensemble II)
Work experience- Have been working since senior year
Volunteering- Link Crew, Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Liturgy teacher, Hospital Volunteer,
Summer activities- Vacation Bible School, Taught kids K-5 about Filipino culture for a summer camp
Essays- pretty good!(: one was about my childhood in the Philippines and the other was about the insecurity of being physically small
Other:
Intended Major- Chemical Engineering
State: CA
School type- diverse group of all ethnicities, San Diego county and school district is PUSD which is a pretty highly regarded district
Ethnicity- Filipino
Gender- female
Income bracket- low-income
Hooks- not really sure about this one…
Reflection:
Strengths- Essays and ECs?
Weaknesses- GPA, test scores
Where else I was accepted: SDSU LOL
Decision: ACCEPTED!
Major: Pre-Biology
UC GPA - 3.92
8 AP classes total
SAT I - 1610
Senior Course Load: AP Psych, AP Chemistry, AP Government, AP English Lit, AP Statistics, ASB Leadership
EC- Volunteering Club all 4 years at around few hundred hours, been in the school’s leadership in both the ASB position and from our school’s Agricultural Leadership class. Participated in High School sport all four years playing playing 4 different sports for almost all 4 years, all varsity except freshman year.
Strengths: I’m gonna have to go with my Essays and EC?
Weaknesses: My GPA is a little bit below the average admitted but my test scores was definitely way below.
Also accepted to: UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, SJSU, FSU and SJU (Queens)
Waitlisted to: Cal Poly SLO, SDSU
Denied: UCSD, UCD
Waiting on Irvine and LA.
I honestly did not think I would get in SB that I was ready to commit to UCSC as soon as I had received my acceptance few days ago. With an acceptance to SB I actually am starting to have a tiny bit of hope that I can get into my dream school UCLA. Will MOST likely attend UCSB if I get rejected to UCLA
What was really surprising was that most of my friends who applied for SB ALL got accepted, 80% of them have similar stats as me in GPA but their test scores weren’t much higher averaging around 1600~1700 with 2 people I know who had 1500s that received the reception dinner thing.
I thought I would post my decision because I thought it was odd that I would get accepted from UCSD, the slightly higher ranked of the two and get rejected from UCSB(not even waitlisted). Did this happen to anyone else? I understand that each UC campuses review your application so maybe UCSD people just liked my application more.
If you are rejected from UCSB, hopefully this can serve you as an reminder that your application may appeal differently to different colleges so you shouldn’t give up on your other schools just because of the outcome of another school. (I opened my UC San Diego with no hope of getting in after getting rejected from UCSD)
Here’s a quick run down of my app.
Asian Female
Out of state (from GA)
Undeclared (Social Science)
ACT: 32
GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8
Graduating with 12 AP classes
EC: had many leadership roles within clubs, mostly art-oriented, 2 years of JV Cheerleading, decent volunteer/community service
Awards: National AP Scholar w Distinction, Basic Academic and Community Service Honor stuff., MVP and Coach’s Award from cheerleading.
Personal Statement: I honestly cringe every time I read it, I’m awful at writing, I would say my 1st one was 5/10 and then my 2nd one was 8/10.
Strength: decent EC, rigor of the course schedule, number of AP classes
Weaknesses: Although GPA is pretty good, overall avg isn’t that high. Personal Statement was definitely weak. I also think having teacher rec would have helped but that wasn’t an option anyways.
Waiting on UCLA, UCB
Accepted to UCSD, UGA and GA Tech
Based on what I provided above, what are my chances for UCLA and UCB? I’m thinking slim to none but any feedback is much appreciated
Decision: Accepted.

All very consistent, done for at least 3 or 4 years.
Work experience- Counselor at ESL camp was paid for 2/4 years
Essays-Pretty good. wrote about how i’d been to third world countries and that’s what made me interested in my major 'cause i want to work with NGO’s. Second essay was about my experience working with international students.

State: CA
School type- smallish christian school, not very diverse. Part boarding school but I am a day student.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I am really confused. Is engineering this competitive at these UCs? I got into Georgia Tech which is an objectively better school than UCSB so I don’t know why they rejected me. California law prohibits considering race so it’s not that I’m overrepresented. Both my parents went to grad school and my income bracket is high? Are they allowed to consider that?[/li][/ul]General Comments: Even if I got in I would probably go somewhere else. Whatever, shouldn’t take this too hard.

@eliminate1337, I think it’s very unpredictable, particularly for out of state residents. I’ve seen quite a few waitlisted engineers. D applied for Chem E, but was accepted for Chemistry, which means she would never be able to switch into engineering. It might be better to be waitlisted, because at least then you still have a chance to get into the engineering school. Your profile looks great, so it’s not surprising that you’ve been accepted to some really good schools.
Got accepted to UCSB yesterday and super excited! Now just waiting on UCLA and Cal
@Globalgal101 Probably you’ve had some strengths.
Accepted
SAT 1970
GPA 4.0 (out of 4.0)
International, middle east
Waiting for UCLA and UCB
LOL! My daughter got an email from the Lacrosse coach at UCSB asking her to consider joining the team - they are looking for beginners and those with experience. Pretty humorous. She probably won’t end up at UCSB though because she did not get the major she wanted. Oh well…also waiting for UCLA and UCB.
Same here, im seriously considering UCSB until I hear from my other colleges, so I might look into it
How do you qualify for honors? I have a 2220 and almost perf t scores on three subject tests and challenging schedule. Just wondering 4.4 uncapped gpa 4.2 capped
I got an email from the lacrosse coach, too @ucladeb. Seems strange since i’ve never played lacrosse or wanted to.
Just got wait listed at UCSB, very very sad, it was by far my first choice. UC gpa 4.2, uw gpa 3.9, SAT 1990.
I am holding on to hope for the wait list but I know its unpredictable/slim chance. At least I have UCI and Davis to choose from. Congrats to everyone who got in, I am extremely jealous!!!
