UCSB is my last choice (I live just south of there, so it’s a bit too close to home/what I am used to) but the acceptance has me pumped to hear back from UCLA and UCB.

Really thought I wouldn’t get in because of my GPA, but I was ecstatic when I checked my portal earlier today.

@BlackPlasma Thank you! Yes it was my first time checking today.

@DannyOcean No, because lightning doesn’t often strike twice… or so I figure. I’m assuming UCPD stepped up their game after that. If you’re concerned, you can always contact them for details of how security is different now as opposed to before the incident.

@DannyOcean The shooting was more so associated with UCSB given the fact that the vicinity and victims than directly connected with UCSB. Unfortunately, these attacks have just become a part of U.S. crime culture across the U.S. No region is going to be safe or even at least “safer” until there is reform.

Congrats to those who were accepted!

For those who haven’t received a decision, I’ve been reading through decision threads for years. UCSC sent out a batch of acceptances last year on April 25th! It sucks to not be in the first batch. I’ve been there twice already, but it doesn’t mean anything! We still have over a month. Find a way to distract yourself. Personally, I buy comfort food and find something to binge watch on decision days just in case. lol

ACCEPTED all glory to God (Decision came in at 3pm but just now posting)

How come some people are pending? How do they decide who they admit first?

@pleaseberkeley whoevers application is done they just upload them. So if you got pending it could mean that they havent decided on you yet?

@SwaggypUCLA Well I am a 3.7 history major I thought I was a sure fire to get in UCSB. If they havent decided yet then thats bad news for UCLA or UC Berkeley which are my goals. This is bad.

@pleaseberkeley LOL chill my friend had a 4.0 and havent heard back yet. you will be fine

@pleaseberkeley Haha relax.

Was admitted to UCSB yesterday as a psychology major with a 3.26, feeling blessed today now waiting for UC Davis! :slight_smile:

@DannyOcean The shooting wasn’t on the UCSB campus, it was in the neighboring city which, to be fair, is very close by. The shooter, Elliot Rodger chose the street because it was the place a lot of people typically partied, many frat houses are there, etc. He saw the street as basically a bastion of everything he saw in the world that was keeping him down or some other twisted logic like that.

I’ve been up there quite a few times since my significant other attends UCSB, and there are armed police officers there most nights.

Instead of complaining about shootings, why not check out the crime statistics of other UCs like riverside or the city of Berkeley.

@uchopeful414 Very true, the most crime one should be worried about is getting your bike stolen or your apartment broken into at UCSB. A shooting is an isolated case and an outlier.
