UCSB Financial Mathematics and Statistics vs. UCSD Management Science

I've narrowed my choices down to UCSB for the Financial Math and Statistics major or UCSD for the Management Science major. I plan to pursue a career in either investment banking or venture capital. I feel like UCSB's major is more focused towards my goals. However, UCSD is a better school. I'm currently leaning towards UCSB because I believe that both universities are essentially second tier UC's and that the difference in ranking won't matter much when I apply to grad school in the east coast. I'd also rather have a major that directly applies to what I plan to do later in life. Also, UCSB's social scene obviously wins.

Anyone have any opinions as to which one I should choose?

UCSB's major: Financial Mathematics and Statistics B.S.
UCSD's major: UC San Diego Department of Economics :: Management Science B.S.

Go to the school you like better and the major you enjoy more. Don’t worry about how others might view what you did. Most won’t even know the difference.

UCSD is a top tier UC.
UCSB is a second tier UC.
at least reputation-wise.
(especially for science majors)

That being said, they are both top tier schools in the country.
I had to make the same decision, and I chose what was best for my future plans. (UCSD offers a better hands on program for my major)
If it is the similar issue with you then definitely choose UCSB.
UCSB is a very good school , and you will be having an excellent education anyways.

In terms of social scene,
UCSB is more like a campus party school , and obviously they are good at it.
UCSD on the other hand is more like a “let’s go down to city and get drunk” kinda school lol. Although you will find parties especially if you live in the village.

UCSD is not really a “top-tier UC”. Not sure where you got that from.
Berkeley was ranked 21st, UCLA 25th,…UCSD was ranked 37th (Davis-38, UCSB-42, UCI-45). 12-16 spots is a pretty big difference. It’s name recognition is nowhere near UCB or UCLA. UCSB is ranked just 5 spots below UCSD. It’s lower, but barely. Unlike the difference between UCSD and UCB/UCLA.

hey guys - im in the same situation - any recommendations?

if one is focusing on career advancement and salary - do you go with financial math or management science?
