UCSB for biochemsitry

UCSB is my favorite school right now in terms of campus and location. My other two schools between which I am deciding are UCSD and UC Davis, both for biochemistry. I know UCSB isn't as good for biochemistry as Davis, but if the difference is not significant between the two then I will probably choose UCSB because I like it more than Davis, but I like Davis enough that if it is significantly better for biochemistry I will choose it over Santa Barbara. As for San Diego, I know it is better than the other two for biological sciences, but the school itself I don't really like. Any help with my decision and on how good the biological sciences are at SB compared to Davis is appreciated!!

Definitely go to the school you like for undergraduate, since these three schools all have pretty solid biochem programs. Besides, it’s mostly about you. Your college experience is about how much you get out of it yourself rather than simply going to a school which has a slightly better program but a place you don’t like. I didn’t like UCSB that much when I first applied. But now I’m loving it and I really enjoy every minute of my time here. I can definitely say that I probably wouldn’t be as happy as I am now, if I actually went to Ivies or some other schools.

UC’s in general are power houses in regards to Science and Engineering. Biochemistry and Biology in UCSB is well ranked and you can find research positions on the campus especially with an inter-disciplinary approach. I know quiet a few Bio and biochem majors from UCSB who went to Med schools or got into good private or grad school positions. If you love the campus and the school you won’t regret it.

Study hard, and play hard. Don’t forget to enjoy the beach and the people you will miss them the most after graduation. Trust me.

Get involved as much as you can, you will leave a better person. UCSB is a very beautiful place, and the school is very under rated.

Another question…I’m looking to go to med school after undergrad so would it be more helpful to go to Davis because SB doesn’t have a med school?

See posts #10-12 here :)

Thanks a lot! I have heard many people (other than my parents) tell me that UC’s are all good and that I will have a good opportunity for med school whether I go to davis or sb, and seeing as i like sb way more I will probably go there

Does anybody know where I can locate practice tests or old tests for chem 142a (biochem), chem 150 (analytical chem), or chem 112a (biophysical). Thanks!
