So I will be doing a premed track at UCSB this Fall and have already found a volunteer chance at the Cottage Hospital, what else should I be looking to do in my first year? I know research is very important and have emailed many professors and checked FRAP but can't seem to find anything, is this simply because i'm a frosh and what can I do to find research chances?

It’s good you seem to be on top of things but just make sure you don’t overdue it. Remember undergrad is a marathon not a sprint. It’s good you want to start volunteering early…also you definitely don’t need to rush into research…most of my premed friends and I didn’t start until soph/junior year. The most important thing you can do is to stay on schedule and do well in your prereqs. Have fun! your only in college once

Hey ucsbpremed, thanks for the response. I have seen the schedule for premeds that UCSB has put up as a references and I was just curious if you take Org. Chem, Physics and Bio all at the same time in your sophomore year?

Do not under any circumstances take physics, bio, and o-chem all at the same time. If you can take physics starting in fall. If you can’t, start the series in winter of your freshman year so that ochem, bio, and physics only overlap for one quarter your sophomore year. Thats what i did.

Yeah, I did almost exactly what ucsbbiomaj did however, I took 6C over the summer instead of the next fall. With labs, those three together would not be fun at all…I wouldn’t recommend it
