Hey, so now that college admissions are over i’m deciding between Cal and UCSB. Cal has been one of my dream schools for a while - I have family/friends there and many alumni in my family - but when Regents at UCSB entered the picture I was thrown off course so to speak.
Here is the link for the program description at UCSB:
https://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/PDFs/regents-scholars-program-2015.pdf?sfvrsn=18
So the scholarship and and early registration are clear, but other opportunities are not as spelled out. If any one can shed some light on the Regents program that would be appreciated, as well as how it differs from the honors program.
I’m looking towards a Material Science and Engineering degree. Cal is third in the country for undergrad in this, while UCSB is tenth (us news). However, UCSB does not actually have a undergrad major; the idea is I would major in chem or engineering and do a five year program to get a masters in Mat Sci. Another fun fact, UCSB is second in the country for graduate school Mat Sci. So my question is, how would these programs/degrees differ? I plan on getting a doctorate if I do go down this path.
Needless to say, I would like to keep my options open for undergrad study and would like to go to a school that is not only good in the major I think I will pursue. Finally, pre-med is probably my second most likely path, but really who knows in high school. Thanks so much for everyone taking the time to respond.
PS. visiting the campuses in a few weeks, but time is of the essence and I want to get my barrings.
