Who's going? I am! I'm pretty sure I'm going to UCSB for college, and I'm excited to go to the open house next Saturday. I'm pretty stoked :D

I'll be there too. I can't wait, SB is my favorite place in the world.

ucsb posted up the agenda: http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/SpringInsight_FinalWeb_1.pdf

ill be there

NOooooooooooooooo. I have a wedding to go to =[. I so want to go.

Someone asked about spring insight in the myspace group so I decided to share my insights here too:

I went to it! It was pretty cool.

I've only been to UCSB once before last yr during spring break and I didn't really get to see the school that thoroughly. I've read a ton about it and talked to people there, but I'm gonna go there this Fall so it's pretty essential I get a really good firsthand look. Especially, my parents who are funding my higher education endeavors (hah) have to see the school too because they've never been there before.

There's a schedule online of the day http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/SpringInsight_FinalWeb_1.pdf .

There are various talks and stuff you can go to. The first thing I went to was the "Students in Transition" thing where it was basically like a student panel where 4 students answered anybody's questions. After that, my family and I went to the College of Letters and Science talk in Cambell Hall. Wow, this hall is the biggest lecture hall on campus that can hold over 850+ people! It was very packed. The dean talked about UCSB and the strength of its programs, and then a panel of 2 professors and 2 honors students answered concerns of the audience. The 2 students in the honors program were really high achievers and inspired me, lol. One guy is actually a double-major in Psychology and Sociology. Before, I never really thought seriously about double-majors because I thought it would be so stressful and way too much work. But fortunately, in his case, he was able to work out everything perfectly. He is graduating in 4 years with 180 units, the MINIMUM required to graduate! Basically, instead of taking one major and lots of other elective classes, those other classes apply toward another major. This encouraged me to think more seriously about doing a double-major. I'm planning on majoring in Business Economics, but I also really want to do English, History, or PoliSci has either a minor or a another major. I'm leaning toward PoliSci and if I'm responsible and on top of things, I think I can make it happen.

After those talks I went on a campus tour. I love the campus. It is so close to the beach, the school actually owns its own beach! UCSB Beach, awesome. I saw some dorms, San Nicolas and Santa Cruz. San Nicolas seemed really small and Santa Cruz seemed a little bigger and had a view of the ocean. I think I'm leaning toward Santa Cruz. I saw some people on here like Anacapa so I should try to learn more about that too.

Then I went to the bookstore and bought a cute sweatshirt and they have these cool free tote bags with a $10 purchase.

Overall it was a pretty good day and I learned a lot about the school. It is not just a "party school" but you can really see the serious academic side of the university. The university is not huge and there is a big focus on undergrads. The graduate population is very small compared to other UC's like UCLA. There are also a lot of opportunities for undergrad research which I learned too.

Well that was my account of the day, I hope this enlightens other people.

<3

I also went today. I'm a transfer student, it was my second time going there. I originally just applied to Davis with the guaranteed transfer program, and applied to UCSB without ever considering it because it also had a guaranteed program so I just applied for the heck of it.

But each time I've been, I've really liked it! I'm leaning towards SB right now.

Anyway, I didn't go to too much of the events, I went to the transfer admission requirements and that was pretty much it in terms of formal presentations. I went on the tours for each of the 3 dorms that were open, and I really liked Manzanita. Since I'm a transfer student, I'm hoping to get in there.

Is anyone else planning to go to summer school (I guess the Freshman Summer Start program for Freshman?). UCSB also has a "Transitions" program for transfer students, which is similar to the Freshman program though less complete. It's also during Session B, so if I do go there I guess I'll be able to see a lot of the incoming freshman as well :p

Today was so crazy! I have been at UCSD checking out the campus since thursday (my decision was now between SD and SB). I absolutely loved the students I stayed with, they were awesome, but really..the way the school is structured was not a good fit for me at all, for example, it is a RULE that doors must be closed at all times (and people wonder why UCSD is so anti social). Anyways, so I'm sitting in the big lecture hall for admit day to start at 9 am today in San Diego. And then it dawned on me that UCSB was SUCH a better fit...so, my parents and I got up just as UCSD's program was starting and drove 3 1/2 hours to UCSB where we made it towards the end of the admit day program. However, just as always, UCSB students are so darn nice we had our own personal tour and everything just confirmed it for me. Right now I am just on cloud nine that I made a decision, and have decided on a school that I will truly be happy at.

To everyone who is going to attend UCSB next year, I'll see ya there!! :)

natasha0587: that's so awesome! ucsd used to be my top choice, but after i didn't get in, i was really bummed. ucsb was my next choice but it wasn't as great as ucsd in my eyes. but after reading more about the school, talking to people, and visiting the school again, i'm actually really really happy and very excited. congratulations on making your decision! i was sad i didn't get accepted into the honors program (my gpa isn't that great. my friends who aren't that much brighter on paper, but with better gpa's got into the honors program, however they aren't going to ucsb). but i read after getting at least a 3.5 overall on 12 units, you can already join the honors program. so i will work hard to do that to go into the honors program. i've also been thinking about double majoring. from talking to all the wonderful people today, this really made me feel that ucsb is such a great school and that i should be very happy there.

I really think going to the university really helps with the decision. Visiting gave me a really good perspective of the university.

Back in my high school, very few people even seemed to consider UCSB. Luckily, today I was able to find one of the few people from my high school that went to UCSB. He didn't have it high on it list either, but it was the only UC he was admitted to (even Santa Cruz rejected him). Anyway, he said he went to UCSB, and really loved everything about it.

He said the most dissapointing thing was that many people from our high school don't even give UCSB a chance, and I'm glad that I decided to visit.

i think im gonna choose ucsb... i know the SIR is due May 1st but what are the advantages of sending it in earlier?

myname1sjude: well seeing as the housing is not a first-come first serve basis (computer lottery thing), then i guess there are no advantages to sending it in early. i for one sent mine in today to get that over with and start being officially excited

I went...it was cool.

I think I'm going to go to UCSB too....also I have heard that Santa Cruz is the best dorm because of the ocean views and it is close to DLG, but Francisco Torres is the best for meeting lots of freshmen. I think I want to live in Santa Cruz

i want to live in santa cruz too

They posted an evaluation site for anyone who went to the Opn House day.
