UCSB to CC to SLO chances?

Hello everyone! I unfortunately made the original mistake of choosing UCSB econ over SLO business 2 years ago  Going to give it another try now! SLO is my top choice along with University of Washington.

So I just finished year 2 at UCSB, but due to medical problems i took a reduced load this year and had to drop out in spring. I am doing pre-economics/accounting. I enjoy accounting but really do not enjoy economics and would rather take courses more practical and applicable to a future job. I plan on taking a medical leave next year and taking classes at my local CC. Here are my stats and UCSB and my hopeful stats at CC.

UCSB: (67 quarter credits, 59 count toward GPA) 3.24 GPA…took 2 Calc, 1 stat, 1 Macroeconomics, 1 accounting, and 2 Microeconomic courses.

CC: 3.8-4.0 GPA (24-28 semester credits) plan on taking Business Law, Philosophy (Ethics), Public Speaking, Managerial Accounting, and other business courses.

I did the math and after straight A’s first semester I would have a 3.46 and after a second semester I would have a 3.57 (can you appeal and turn in spring grades?)

Last question, I have a couple withdrawals due to my medical problems. When I told SDSU about my situation they said there is NO way to tell them what is going on. I find this hard to believe, I know there isn’t a spot on the application but can’t you call or something? I ask this because I have had over a dozen surgeries (4 of which had recoveries times of over a month) since I graduated high school…I have had a much tougher path than most and I hope I could explain this somehow.

Thanks for reading all of this, any input would be greatly appreciated :)

It appears that you have completed most of the general education requirements at UCSB. I’m pretty sure whatever CC you attend will accept most, if not all, of your credits. As long as your credits transfer, you strengthen your GPA to your estimated number, and complete the mandatory prereqs needed to successfully transfer, I think you have a very good chance. EC’s to put on the application would be ideal as well.

I appled as a business major with a concentration in accouting, and I was accepted with around a 3.5 GPA. I started out at a different college (3.0 GPA) then transferred to a CC (4.0 GPA) then successfully transfered to Cal Poly. I also had 3 W’s on my transcript, so I wouldn’t worry too much about them. There was nowhere on the application for me to put the reason, so I just applied and let them find out for themselves.

However, as other people have learned, the acceptance process is highly unpredictable, so good luck with everything.

thanks I hope so! Good to know im not the only one who has been in this situation! I was getting nervous because SDSU said they dont even look at the fact I have taken a harder schedule as opposed to someone at a CC 2 years (not at all hating on community college but its not the same). Hopefully I get up to that 3.5 mark! And im a well rounded person so my EC’s are good (i didnt know CSU’s had a spot to list EC’s…)

my SAT is 1300/1960 but I dont think that matters much once you are 2 years removed

I don’t think your SAT matters. I didn’t even take the SAT/ACT and I still got in.
