UCSB v. UCD for Neuroscience

Hi,

So I was accepted to both schools and am curious as to how their respective Neuro and pre-med programs compare. I'm also aware that the major names are different for each school (Biopsychology for UCSB and Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior for UCD) and was admitted to UCSB's honors program. I'll be posting this on both schools' forums to get a balanced opinion.

Thank you!

I had read some really cool stuff about UCSB’s neuroscience program and professors, but I think it was in the biopsychology realm, although not entirely, and you seem familiar with that. I’ll check in a sec and see if I can find it quickly. I don’t know about Davis comparatively, so you will have to get that half from someone else.

My niece did recently graduate from UCSB, and now is awaiting her residency results after med school, and she though it had wonderful opportunities for undergraduates. Amongst other things she was an EMT there. She also just plain loved the campus and area. She is trying to get a residency there.

Both are good schools though, and my sons have to weigh the same ones, so I am acutely aware of that.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

@collegevetting Thank you  I’ve heard good things about UCSB’s biopsych major as well - only vague stuff however. Please let me know if you find that link!

Although not specifically for neuroscience, I made a thread outlining a general comparison. Hope you find it useful!!!

@jae221 My daughter is at UCSB in BioPsych currently. She is a sophmore/junior so has taken mostly pre-req science/math and some psych. She likes her psych classes. She’s been in some really (really) big lectures. She just finished O Chem and that was hard. She thinks she pulled a B yesterday. She participates regularly in psych studies for cash and she enjoys that a lot. She also got into UCD, UCB, UCSC and chose UCSB. She says she can’t imagine herself anywhere else. Her classes are hard, but students study hard and she studies with people she met in her freshman year dorm and from Summer Start. She is very happy there. She was also admitted to honors, but couldn’t hold onto it. 3.6 GPA requirement. Physics and chem killed it for her. She was almost back to a 3.6 but this last B in O Chem will keep her from it I think.

If you can think of any questions that you would like me to ask her, I’d be happy to.
