[Neuroscience Physiology] UCD vs UCSD

UCD - Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior
UCSD the major I applied for was Neuroscience and Physiology

I have researched both of their undergraduate programs and found them to be almost parallel to each other. This decision is turning out to be really difficult for me.

In the beginning UCSD was my top choice and Davis was my lowest choice. I complained that Davis was in the middle of nowhere, hella hot with NO beaches (unlike San Diego), and the smell of cows. But "the universe" has been telling me to give Davis a chance. For one, I recently got accepted to an internship at UCD this summer, and rejected to the 5 others I applied for. I've always set my eyes on major first, financial aid, then location, location, location!

UCSD and UCD have about the same offers in Financial Aid, I have a sister who lives in San Diego so my living costs would be cheaper than average but I also have a friend who lives in Sacramento/Davis area AND the cost of living there is super cheap. So they both cancel each other out in terms of housing.

Well, the majors are the same (damn near), the financial aids are the same, and well..the locations are complete opposite! I can't seem to make a decision based on visiting the campuses and researching their programs.

Any thoughts, opinions, or experiences you guys would like to share?

Maybe I can help you out. I was in the same position 4 years ago choosing between UCSD and UC Davis. I ultimately picked UCSD but only narrowly. I know you are leaning towards UCSD but here are some things to reconsider before you make your final decision.

I totally disagree with this. I find both places pretty comparable in a lot of ways.

You can almost argue that UCSD is more isolated than UC Davis (depending on what you’re looking to do). The city of Davis is much more catered towards college students with a lot of stores and restaurants within walking/biking distance. Not a ton of things for college students is within walking/biking distance from UCSD. Also, it takes about 15 minutes to get from UCSD to downtown San Diego and about 20 minutes to get from UC Davis to downtown Sacramento so those are comparable driving distances.

Yes, it’s hotter in Davis on average but I don’t think the weather is TOO drastically different. And also yes, Davis doesn’t have any beaches. It’s funny though because a lot of people point out that UCSD is close to beaches yet the average student probably doesn’t even go once a year.

The whole university doesn’t smell like cows. And of the parts that do, I’m sure you quickly wouldn’t even notice any more.

@$KingsElite$ Thank you for your thorough reply. I appreciate your honesty and allowing me to understand that I should give Davis a chance.

I’m going to visit Davis again for their transfer admittance day and hopefully have some students enlighten me firsthand of their experiences as undergraduates there.

Thanks again!
