I can't really find that much information about the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at UCSB, and I haven't really looked into UCI, because I'm not all that inclined to going there as it is so close to home and Irvine is a boring city.
I want to major in either sociology or international relations. Maybe even political science, although I prefer the other two majors. I would like to go to a good law school after undergrad. Which school is the best for this area of study?
I've also been accepted into NYU, to the Gallatin School if anyone wants to defend that school, despite the fact that its so far away from home (I love California) and is double the price.
I would like some concrete proof to show my parents about UCSB being a better school to go than UCI, academics-wise. I would stay on campus either way, and I'm not all that inclined to the party scene even though I make friends pretty easily, so I'm not worried about the social life.

UCSB and UCI are evenly good with the subjects you mentioned. So why not just tell your parents you feel like going to UCSB and that you see yourself going to UCSB and not UCI? I think that is a good enough reason, what more do you have to show?

If you want to convince your parents that UCSB is better academic wise than UCI then it shouldn’t be too hard. You can look at any rankings list and you can find that UCSB is always ranked higher than UCI, (or any other mid-tier UC for that matter, I don’t know what determines the rankings but for persuasion it’s always a good tool) According to this website UCSB is ranked 106 while UCI is ranked 166.

I currently go to NYU. I wanted to go to SB but I was pretty much coerced into going to NYU b/c it’s more prestigious. I’m now trying to transfer to SB and still decision pending. boo.

UCI will out rank UCSB on the next college rankings. Its a better school for engineering or marine bio but not your field of study. I would choose UCI.

@Malibu727,

How can you even predict college rankings?

Because Malibu just can. lmao

haha malibu is awesome. He/she is doing what ever it takes to get off that waiting list and into UCSB. I like the killer spirit! I really hope you get in.

Here is another ranking system that ranks UCSB higher than UCI:

[ARWU 2009](http://www.arwu.org/ARWU2009.jsp)

All the people who are telling you that UCI will pull ahead in the coming years are pulling stuff out of their rear end. They don’t know what they are talking about, all of this ranking stuff and prestige is to make themselves feel superior. Whats going to matter is what you learn in college and if you think you will learn more in UCSB or UCI because of 1 or 2 ranking spots you are terribly mistaken.

But if you want to convince your parents you got the link I provided you and Fendi’s link. Just follow your heart, good luck.

Two years later in 2012. UCSB is still ranked higher than UCI.

There’s this false notion that UCI is ranked higher… not sure where that came from, but wasn’t true in 2010 and still not true, lol
