I am currently deciding between UCSB and UCLA. UCLA is undoubtedly the better school, with more prestige, recognition, and what appears to be more opportunities for success. But I feel much more comfortable at UCSB. I'm from a fairly small beach town in central california and I feel right at home at UCSB. I really feel uncomfortable with large cities, but it seems like UCLA, the school has everything I need and I won't really be forced to go to LA very often. My main dilemma is I feel like the school of UCLA is a perfect fit for me (challenging academics, incredible school spirit, amazing facilities, etc...), but everything else at UCSB matches with my personality so much more (laid back atmosphere, beach town, social scene, etc...) So I feel like I'm basically choosing between my ideal school/ learning environment (UCLA) where I will be forced to grow and develop and my ideal living environment (UCSB) where I'll be most comfortable and happiest. If anyone had any insight on either school or my situation in general I would greatly appreciate the help.

I would choose UCSB since that’s where you feel more comfortable. You’ll probably have a better overall experience there.

UCSB for sure

To a very large extent, what you get out of college depends greatly on what you put into it. So, if you feel more comfortable with UCSB, go for it, you’ll probably do better if you feel good about where you’re going to school. Just do get involved and work hard at your chosen field. You can always go to UCLA for grad school, if you so choose.
