it seems most people are going to attend the may 16th transition one and not that 30th, i prefer the 30th since i will be done with finals but since everyone is going on the 16th then maybe i will attend that one, just hope it really helps and not a waste of time.

How does housing work? I am thinking about getting an apartment with a friend. One of the apartments cost around $600 a month. If I get that, how many months are we allowed in the apartments? How many months do people usually stay? Do people just go home for summer, if they aren't taking any classes, to save on costs? Do the contracts work different than the dorms? What I mean is do we have to be put in a raffle to see which one we get or we get the apartment building we want?

If I did a meal plan with the apartments, how much extra would it cost?

californialife-im thinking about the santa ynez apts that are 474/month and i believe the apts are 9 month contracts..summer you are on your own to apply for housing again

i'm getting the campus own apartments for the summer since its about 600-700 for 6 weeks and dorming for the fall. Think most people in the summer, at least the freshman and sofemore g and take ge classes at a cc.

The whole pricing system for the meals doesn't make sense. Apparently there are prices for each week, which is weird. For the first week, it costs $1,646 for the 19 meal plan. That is around $86 per meal. That sucks.

Is that how you guys see it too?

After seeing that, the dorm room is actually cheaper.

I just talked to my advisor today and she told me that they are trying to reserve space in the summer courses for transfer students and the only way to start taking upper division major courses is if you are completely done with all prereqs and ucsb confirms it, no in progess is allowed, unless you report that you passed after this quarter/semester is done and hope theres still space.

Thank goodness. I was about to flip out... haha. There better be WolfGang Puck in there if I am going to pay $9000+ a year on food (that is what it is if you add up each week's section).

The Westgate Apartments look appealing. From looking at the El Dorado Apartments, it looks like their rooms are bigger. After reading how many rooms they have in that apartment complex, it maybe hard to get a room there. I'll keep looking around at my options.

Have you picked an area you like; whether it be dorms or apartments?

yeah i think i want to do santa ynez they are cheaper..and from what i saw when i was there last a little more spread out and kept up a little better...im not so sure i want to go the dorm route at all everyone i know seems to like it for about a month and then they just want out

I was thinking about Ynez. My problem is that I don't know if I quite yet want to room with 4 people. With the one room apartments, it is a 2 person unit. I plan on rooming with one of my friends.

When do you guys think they will send out the official financial aid packets? >_<

see if I knew who I was going to live with I would want to have a 1 room also...but not knowing who I am going to live with I'd rather have 3 other people in the same unit if that makes any sense lol

That makes sense. When you get 3 other people in the room, you are bound to find someone you can be friends with. If it is just one person then your chances of actually liking the person are smaller.

At least they have the roommate matcher thing haha.

Have you guys decided on a dining common? I kind of want the DLG because Jack Johnson ate in that one :) However, if I go with apartments, Carrillo and Portola would be my best option. I really don't want to hike forever with my bike to get some grub >_<
